I have been logged with the TPS service for many years and am also ex directory. Recently I have been receiving nuisance tele marking calls from a company called Excel contact services based in Scotland.
They rang me on
26/7 evening
27/7 evening
29/7 2.19 pm
1/8/ afternoon
1/8 7.53 pm
According to my BT Privacy caller ID. On the first two occasions I was in and after about 2-3 rings I got to the phone and it went dead. The call ID got this number 08700118298 I was reluctant to call back in case it was a scam but did a search on the net and found out other people also been bothered by them. See here http://www.bloged.co.uk/archives/001192.php
I got this message when I rang the number 08700118298
You have been contacted by Excel Contact Centre when you were not available when we called. We are working on behalf of a client who wishes us to speak to you regarding an offer or service they provide. The message I got was this, when I rang them back.
"We do not need to speak to you at this time as we will call you back at a future date. Thank you for calling"
Despite contacting the company and asked them 3 times to stop they still continue to harras us.
I have contacted Ontel by phone company who gave me this number for BT nuisance calls. They told me to ring Silent guard which will stop these marketing calls. I registered by number which apparently will stop companies that abide by the code of conduct. They have a system that will block all known number to for £40, which I cant afford nor why should I.
I don't know why this company is harassing me, I don't normally get nuisance calls as I am ex directory, registered with the TPS for many years, all that I can think of is that I entered loads of competitions recently. The company rings you on behave of another company.
I am sick to death of these calls. Any suggestions.

Do what i do buy a whistle and burst their ear drums
If they get funny with you then say all other methods does not work except this one as you wont forget me and then whistle againWhile I breathe.... I hope0 -
I think these calls come from filling in competition forms. I have stopped doing that as you never hear of anyone winning and they get your name and address etc. Although I suppose somebody has to win.
We are registered with TPS too and still get these nuisance calls. Mainly 'you have won a Caribbean cruise' from somebody with an American accent.
If we're not in they leave a message on our answering machine and run it 2 or 3 times and take the space on the tape. They're a bally nuisance.!
I smiled to myself though as an insurance company was trying to call us and couldn't get through due to TPS . They had to write to us instead. TPS works in some cases.
I don't know what the answer is but it's time something was done to stop these companies harassing people.
Hope you don't get too many more calls. I never call them back or acknowledge them.
Perhaps you could try reversing the charges!!0 -
Thanks for advice. On the few occasion we answered the phone there is no one there, the line goes dead. When I rang the numbers its just a message service. As I said did a search and got the landline number and have asked three times now to stop pestering me. They are now investigating why my number hasnt been removed from there system and going to ring me back later today.0

Your calls are coming from https://www.excellcontactcentres.com 01294 225300 a reputable concern who act for many blue chip companies. They should be able to remove you from there list quite easily.PF.0

BT can help. See http://www.bt.com/customerservices/cust_details.jsp?parentcat=cs_malicious_calls&childcat=linkcs_malicious_calls_work_together
There is a PDF you can download from http://www.bt.com/customerservices/downloads/malicious_calls.pdf
BT also has Nuisance Call Advisors that can been called anytime on an 0800 number.0 -
Thanks for the advice. I have spoken to Excel on three occasions now, but alas they still seem to want to contact me. I was called again today at 3.43pm, despite speaking to Excel this dinner time asking them again to stop harasing me. It seems the message isn't getting through. What does it take to get the message that I don't want them to ring me and abruptly end the call when one picks up the phone.0

Reputable .......mmmmmmmmm..........well!0 -
TPS won't protect you from offshore calls, but you should complain about any UK number dialling you. Forget about calling them (0870!) or BT, just go to the TPS site and fill the form in.
When you enter comps, you should be given the chance to opt out of your details being recorded 'for marketing by [us] or associated companies'.0 -
My friends brother has a service from BT that costs £4.99 a month but it doesn't let calls in from people who have withheld their number, it also allows him to put a bar on numbers he doesn't want. I wouldn't mind this service but begrudge paying £4.99 per month but to him it is well worth it as he was getting hassled like you.0
