Energy Collection Service on their way... Eon are a JOKE

Ahhh I have to vent somewhere.... I'm not really sure what else to do.

I have been getting bills from Eon for months now, not addressed to me. I have been onto them I don't know how many times telling them I don't owe them a penny (was with them for a few months after moving in but moved to British Gas). They said they will investigate, told me not to worry and to return any future communication to them which I have been doing.

This week I got one from the Energy Collection Service who are coming to fit a pre pay meter whether I like it or not  Been onto them & a note was put on the account but that's as far as they can go... was told they will still come if instructed.

They are producing bills for someone else, sending them to my address & the worst thing is I am paying British Gas for the same billing periods anyway so if these bills were paid in effect I'd be paying both companies!! Something somewhere has gone very wrong anyone in the know got any ideas as to what because its been under investigation for too long now and I don't want bailiffs/energy collection dudes coming round as much fun as it sounds.

Cheers

Have you got a bill from Eon and a bill from British Gas? On the bills there will be the meter serial number and an mpan number. Check these with each other to see if they match and check which one matches the meter serial number on your meter in your house.

This sounds like you need a Solicitor or Citizens advice as nothing else seems to have worked yet.

Hope it sorts itself out. Good Luck X

    Hi

I sympathise, we had a similar problem with EDF and NPower last year. It turns out we had been paying gas for a year on a completely different property due to a meter point reference number that wasn't ours! To make matters worse, we live in a 2 bed terrace and the house they were billing us for was a 5 bed executive property a couple of roads away on the same estate!

We ended up having paid in good faith to one company, only to have another company chasing us for money.

    1. As previous poster suggests, check the meter point reference number tallies with both bills- if not they may have done what EDF and Npower did to us and confused your property with another number.

    2. If numbers don't tally, pursue them to sort it out as it's their fault!

    3. If numbers do match, then could you send a copy of both bills for the same period to prove you are paying one company? This is what we did in the end, and NPower had to hand over the money to EDF who had in fact been supplying us (even though all our billing was through NPower).

    4. If you have tried contacting the companies with no success, get on to the Energy Ombudsman/Energy Watch (check out websites). Our dispute went on for almost 6 months and only once we started threatening with these companies and Watchdog did they get their act together and sort it out.

We also got pretty direct letters saying they wanted the money, no-one wanted to listen when we said we had paid. You really have to be persistent, take names of people you talk to and keep copies of all correspondence. We got there after a long battle!

    Good luck

Thanks very much for the replies
Ok well I have just gone to double check the supply number & the one EON are using is nothing to do with me. British Gas have the correct number & everything is fine with them. Its like EON have just decided I need to pay for a strangers electricity... I think not.

Oh & yesterday I received another bill for £126 so that's over £200 they think someone @ my address owes them..

I shall be calling them one final time in the morning then I'll head to energywatch I guess if nothing is resolved, really don't have time for this at the moment grrr naughty EON

energywatch no longer exist, energy supply ombudsmen is the new one and they will not take your case unless you have a final response.

Oops!! That's a bit rubbish is it not?? EON don't seem in a rush to resolve the issue and I won't be a happy bunny if they do send the 'collection service' round.

    Hi mrme,

Checking the meter serial numbers and the Supply numbers (13 digit number) against the bills is a good place to start.

If these two things are different with both companies it will be a simple address mix up that needs amending.

If some of the details match and some don’t, the situation will be a little more complicated and need further investigation.

Make sure you give all this information to E.ON when you contact them. As cam101 says showing E.ON copies of the British Gas details will help with the investigation.

If you have raised a complaint with E.ON as laid out in the complaints procedure, correspondence and calls from ECS will cease whilst this is investigated.
