Renault Trafic - Invalid Warranty Claim

Options
I hope someone can help.

I have a trafic van which is 2 years old and has covered less than 13000 miles and was bought brand new. It had a first service at an independent garage as per the office of fair trading ruling that allowed servicing away from the expensive main dealers. The second service was however carried out at a main dealer. The vehicle engine has now blown up (it has a hole in it) This happened less than 100 miles after the main dealer service. Renault UK are refusing the repair under warranty because of the service at the independent garage. This garage has gone bust and all I can supply Renault is the original service invoice which they are saying is not enough to prove my service as it does not list the actual part numbers (oil filter etc) and they are using this to invalidate my vehicle warranty. They have said that unless I can supply receipts for genuine Renault parts they will not even review the warranty claim. Can Renault do this? and would Renault genuine parts have to be used on a service or can parts of the same standard be used.

thanks for any help

Whether it is done at an independent garage or not you still have to have it serviced in accordance with the schedule and using genuine parts.

A simple receipt/Invoice saying service doesnt do this. You would need to document exactly what was serviced etc to comply.

Can you not track down the owner of the garage and ask him to supply a list of it.
  • I've never seen a dealer list part numbers on an invoice.

Surely the onus is on them to demonstrate that it hasn't been serviced in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions?

What was the fault that caused the engine to fail?

yes all independant garages have to list the main dealer part (used to work in motor factors) in the motor factor where he may have placed the order for the parts they would have given the reciept with the part numbers on but if this garage went bust there is no way of retrieving this. but saying this you had the vehicle serviced after the independant service by the main dealer and if they had found aftermarket parts (not dealer) then they wouldnt of honoured the service as you warrenty was void and should of brought this to your attention, they did not so all was well, theyre trying to get out of replaceing the engine i suspect and as the car was serviced by them last they would have a hard time proveing that main dealer parts were not used, i would give trading standards a call as your in a unique case garage gone bust they serviced after the independant service. renault and other dealers have protocols in place before a warenty vehicle is ok'd for its second service and so on by checking what parts were used previosly by examining them for theyre part number and make.

as it goes first sirvice is usually just air filter and oil, oil filter, topped up antifreeze and water, brake check.

i cant see that they may cause a hole in the engine though.

oh and to add if you know the motor factor the garage used go to them explain that the garage they suplied to has gone bust and they have a computer catalog system then the account they used will be trackable on their system, all they would need is your invoice for around the date your vehicle was serviced and what parts were supplied (but not really relavant just makes it easier) your vehicle reg as some motor factors supply invoices with the vehicles regisration on they could supply you with a copy of their invoice and to go further they may have tied the invoice to the invoice that they had from renault and supply you with renaults own invoive that they supplied to the motor factors and if they cant find the invoice but have the invoice number they can call renault and ask for a copy!.
