Electric shower quote

Hi

Ive been quoted £500 plus vat to fit an electric shower. There is no existing wiring for one and the existing fuse box cannot be added to - parts no longer made. So a new box for the shower alone will also have to be addes above the existing one.

I'd really appreciate any advice. The guy seems to know what he's talking about - but I dont have a clue.

Thanks for your help.

  • More info needed such as how big a shower (KW Rating), if the spark is supplying the shower, how far the batroom is from the consumer unit and the route it would take to run the feed cable in.

On the face of it though i would say it is a bit steep.
  • 9.6 kw and I bought the shower seperately. Unit downstairs and shower to be fit upstairs. Cable to go up through kitchen through a bedroom, into the loft accross the house and down into the bathroom.

    Many thanks for your help.
  • I would expect that sort of price if he were replacing the existing consumer unit with a new one, as well as wiring the shower.

You should use a competent person for the work, links below

I am making some assumptions here about the run of the cable but you will probably need 10 mm twin and earth. 25 metres about £50. A standalone shower comsumer unit with RCD £30. £10 for pull switch isolator. So £100 approx for electrical materials. Bit of plumbing work to be done but im thinking that you have a cold water supply in the loft anyway.

I again am guessing it could be done in 1 day.

It depends on your opinion but i think that is a very good profit for 1 days work.

Ultimately though the price is only excessive if you can find someone else to do a good legal job for less than that.

Remembering there is also the testing and paperwork to complete.

I have been out of domestic work for some time, my guess is that Baldelectrician would have a good idea of a reasonable daily rate for a spark.
  • Thanks for your help. Vey much appreciated!
