there are various types of them and I haven't been overly impressed... we're fairly light soilers and my machine doesn't always take the powder from the draw so I've accidentally washed several loads with no powder when I've not checked to see if it's all gone so I can compare washing with poweder, with washing balls and with nothing... the clothes came up pretty clean on all counts - but I saw no difference between washing with nothing and washing with the balls. I now use half amount of powder while I use up this box then I'm going to try soap nuts...
my friend tried the balls but they failed to get her son's clothes clean - she now uses soap nuts and both her son's and baby's clothes all come out lovely and clean...
You may have different wash balls to me but if I were you I'd compare a load with nothing and a load with the balls and see what you think.0 -

Ive had the non refillable ones which are not worth the money they are usually in a white plastic container, sent them back and got the refillable ones, much better and leave clothes lovely and soft and clean.0

I love mine, I've been using them for about six months and would never return to detergent, they're a great money saver. Got them from Natures Wisdom, they're like these they stock now (only these are a heck of a lot cheaper than when I bought mine – I paid £17.95 which was half price, these are £7.95 or something):

No hesitation recommending them, but perhaps some work better than others? I've converted quite a few of my friends too.0 -

They're brilliant, definitely recommend them. :T

From naturalcollection website:

Renewable, biodegradable and completely chemical free, these amazing laundry soap nuts are good news for the planet, for allergy sufferers and for your clothes. Great value too, they can be used twice at lower temperatures giving you up to 50 washes per box....FAIRTRADE NOT FREE TRADE

Angela,
How are you finding the wash it balls you bought?
Just curious.:: No unapproved links in signatures please - FT ::0 -
I use Eco balls in the wash they are pretty good but they are a bit weird because the clothes don't smell clean its a psychological thing I think! I usually add some Ecover fabric softner to the wash if I'm doing towels or bed linen. I also have some dryer balls which I do use especially if I'm drying cotton shirts it takes less time and the clothes don't come out as creased. I splurged just after Christmas on an Eco Goddess Kit because I kept hearing about how great these new fangled products were, I have to say I've been impressed so far its probably saved me a few pennies on boxes of powder and bounce!0

Having read this thread I have now bought Eco-balls and soap nuts (the names of which send my DH into hysterical laughter when mentioned!!). At the moment Eco-balls are winning my trial, but I wondered how they compare to Ecover in terms of cleaning quality. Anyone tested all three??Sealed pot challenge number 5130

I've also noticed when using mine that i need to put vinegar in the rinse cycle to help deodorise. Not eco-balls.. some other brand green an kinda knobbly!
One opens up sometimes and I end up with tiny balls of the cleaning stuff everywhere. Does this also happen with eco-balls or does the ring help lock it into place?“We are not interested in the fact that the brain has the consistency of cold porridge.” - Alan Turing (1912-1954)0
