I have £500.00 for a PC

I am not sure if I am posting this is the correct place. I have £500.00 for a PC. I am looking for a machine with a TFT monitor and a dvd re-writer. Can anyone recommend a PC for me to buy.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I've just brought a laptop/notebook for £529.. 1.5 processor, 40gb, DVD Rewriter and LCD Wide screen.

Infact.. just looked here and they've reduced it again! I'm not bitter.. it's excellent.. only thing was I had to install my own office package and antivirus.

Staples. i Got one with a 19" tft for £599.00 with a 250 gb hard drive and all the extras, made by gateway, they went on offer last week.

It's not you Sara, it's the package DSG use for their web sites which times you out after 15 mins or so inactivity. If you post a link, it'll work for a bit then time out. Obviously they (and many other sites using the same software) never thought they'd ever sell anything which people might recommend... The DOH! should be theirs.

only 15" flatscreen and no DVD writer, but DVD recorders are about £40-£50
and it's really really easy to install a new drives on these machines.

Terrible offers from Dell this last few weeks but they're due a good one if your prepared to wait.

I bought a Dimension 5150 a month ago with 19" flatscreen, proper graphics, dvd writer, for a £509..

Watch the Grabit board. When Dell do something good, it'll appear there..

By the way I'm biased about Dell because they have a standard UK delivery charged (often waived) whereas the UK mainland manufacturers charge beteen 70-100 pounds for N. Ireland delvery.

Not much chance of N. Ireland people ever buying Evesham or Mesh really.

Personally if you have a bit of technical knowledge you can build one for that money.

It is fairly straight forward and very easy to do.

http://www.tomshardware.com/howto/index.html will give you lots of help on how to do it.

The plus side of a diy build is you know exactly what components have been used and exactly how to fix it if it goes wrong.

I would find an alternative to eclipse computers, they have a very bad reputation.

Have to agree the only real way you going to get value for money in my opinion is building your own comp
