Hello all,
Hope you can help as I am at a loss of what to do with this problem! For some reason today I have been unable to use eBay. I can go to the home page ok, but I can not log in to "my ebay" or sometimes view any items from a search. In IE I just get a page full of:
"“w¶5Yy›_yç=Ò1=æ`sJŒÜ>g¤ýL˜ÊËÂ;×ôÐfÄN=w'ÌêõS#Eóe ÜûÖBÇš}Ã8Ó¡§ ‚EZàW”fk“w¢°3fs§RbfR ô.XmŠüu§Tó¤ÿPª·dƸ)¶¶ßì½oëYnöιæëÿnö~Æ›½U;R®¼Û›jÆ„¨›FúÒ¶üëzåìMÉŒš¿*lz§f¾€Î“û¢mªISŸãzï'ZŽÃÍ?Ay¾=þ_Åô¨D\<—Õ7!!Ÿrm^}fÅi׿=俤5‰m,TŸ‰É•d¥GÙTsƒÜ™å_õn¿ôÝq;»ì<þ‚¿é0¦8ñïÌIPƒÖÂqâúÁìN—sñB4¦uãE¾GÇ:Ï´‡ÄÛ5#!Ä!‘‚Ðp÷Ç´ÛÄ z%©ŸÔ€+aL§áX?bIÿyÔËõÚP…y塿³‘ª¿ˆ±gÚ¶<mÉsn‡—òQqC¡ÊKÇPL@uwÓ*ô<+ ... etc"
and in Firefox and opera it tries to download some files "ebayISAPI.dll" of type "application/octet-stream"
I've been using it fine in the past, but this problem has just started today. Its really annoying as I use eBay quite a lot and had a couple of things I wanted to bid on tonight.
Also worth noting that I'm on a home network (ntl broadband), and I get the same problem on both my PCs and my laptop, so I don't think its a specific problem on my computer
Anyone have any ideas how I can get around this?
Thanks for any help.

Thanks for any help.I have just checked the eBay.co.uk site in Firefox and it is working fine - could be a server problem.
I have just tried to log in and I can log in to the http://www.ebay.co.uk/ site, but when I try to access, for example, My Messages, it returns an error saying my information is unavailable at the moment.
I have just logged into the My eBay area for http://www.ebay.com/ and there doesn't seem to be a problem with that site either.
It could possible be a problem with a script that has now been fixed,  it could be a problem at your ISP (very unlikely) or as I said before, a server problem (although this is very similar to the first possibility)
Thanks, and I hope this helps; tigermatt0 -

Here is the page on the eBay site for contacting them - you should be able to access this.
If eBay report back that there is no problem, I recommend contacting your ISP, as there could be some sort of filter or something.
I am guessing you use a router as you have a home network with Broadband... Have you tried a different connection, for example, try a friends house, or try connecting through your original modem, as your router could be causing the problem - especially if it is prompting you to download the eBayisapi.dll.
Hope this helps, tigermatt0 -
Hiya,
there is a massive thread on the technical & html page in Ebay communities, title is something like "help, I'm just getting random text".
Unfortunately this has been a problem for many NTL dial-up users for almost 2 months (plus tesco/virgin and other ISPs who piggy back on NTL infrastructure), however it seems to have just started to affect broadband users as well. When I last spoke to my ISP (tesco) they confirmed it is an NTL server problem and agreed not to charge me for until its fixed - probably as I had reported it to them at the start and had no response.
I would recommend reporting it to NTL, and repeating regularly - as chances are you will get one of the staff who try to tell you it's your PC and need to change browser/upgrade java etc, however, I have yet to see any evidence that it is anything other than the NTL infrastructure causing the problem (I am a network techie - but not for them!) as it affects both my home PCs which are running different versions of windows/IE when using tesco/ntl, but not if I use a tiscali PAYG service.
