Refunding postage for returning faulty item

Hi, I recently bought an item from a business seller on eBay and it turned out to be faulty. The seller agreed to refund the item and the postage from me returning in in accordance wit hte DSRs.
I returned the item apart from 1 piece which has been installed and cannot be removed without smashing it, and I clearly stated this when they were returned. The seller has refunded the item, no problem, but now is refusing to refund my postage due to the missing piece. I have explained several times that I am happy to either return the peice in pieces (as it will need to be smashed to uninstall) or let them uninstall it. They are now accusing me of theft!
Given they have already accepted and refunded the item, the theft thing doesn't worry me, but what can I do to get the return postage refunded?
Thanks in advance!
David

How much is the postage?
And how much dopes this 'fitted' item cost? I can see it from their point of view... you needed this part replaced... got it delivered then got full refund... then tried to keep part of item.
I would be fishy if i was them too.
If its a matter of a few quid.... why not compromise? You are afterall not returning the item in full. If its installed presumably you will be making use of it at some point?0 -
My return postage was 11 quid.
The item is worth 50, but the stand that I can't uninstall is just a lump of plastic worth nothing. It's worth noting that I was happy to accept a replacement (and therefore not need a new stand) but they weren't able to do this.
It's more the principal now that the are accusing me of theft, despite having already accepted the goods and refunding my initial purchase cost!0 -
While sellers have to accept returns, they don't have to pay the return P+P. Most decent sellers will pay it though, especially if the item's faulty.Back on MSE after a 5 year hiatus.

Dave, they do have to pay the return postage when an item is faulty. They don't if I'd just changed my mind.0

No, regardless of the reason for return, there is no obligation for your seller to pay return postage.0

Can someone who has actually read the Sale of Goods Act offer some advice please?0

Can you elaborate what we are talking about here and why the installed item cant be pulled out etc?
I.e what is the item and what is teh item that cant be pulled?0 -
The item is a solar fountain. So there is the fountain/pump and the solar panel. The solar panel can be fixed to a plastic stand. It's the plastic stand we're talking about... the screws were poor quality and have completely lost their heads when installing.0
