Paris: Limited time, Limited mon£y

Hello,

I am going to Paris on Wednesday the 21st June for 1night. We will have Wednesday, which we plan to go to Disneyland Paris, and Wednesday night and Thursday to see the sights. I am andering what the cheapest and quickest way to see the sights are. I am also looking for recommendations on what 2 21year olds(not a couple) looking to have fun and party, can do in Paris on a Wednesday night. What areas, restaurant, bars and clubs to go to? Also wandering what the cheapest way to buy Disneyland Paris tickets is and the quickest way to get their from Beuvais and then the quickest ay to get to the Eiffel tower(thats where we are staying) is from Disneyland?

Anyhelp here would be apreciated. We have never been before and want to do as much as possibile in our limited time but getting good value for money and saving where possibile, whilst doing it.

I know if theres ever a place to come for info. like this, its here.

Thanks all in advance,
big help.

    Hello Pbright,

We have just been to Paris in the last week , our first time and had a great time.
As for getting to Disneyland , we enquired into it. 53 Euro costs of train + entrance fee from Gare De Nord. This can be purchased from the Tourist Info centre in the middle of the station ( they do not accept cash .. SO BE AWARE TO CARRY DEBIT / CREDIT CARD).
Bars & Restaurants : All of them are nice.
Nightlife : Sorry didn't try and of this , our trip was a lot more museum and culture driven.
    Museums : Again you can buy passes ( 2 day , 4 or 6 days ) from the Tourist Info centre ( cost 30, 45 & 60 euro respectively )
Tickets : We bought a 3 day pass for Zone 1-3 , which allows you on busses, trains and metro within this Zone ( inner Paris ).
Disney i think ( not sure ) is Zone 5 ( pls don't take my word for this and check for yourself ).

Wednesday night : See Eiffel tower by night and get there before 1020 Pm if you want to get to the top floor. ( 11 euro to the top .... great views ).

Ohhh try to do the Boat tour.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks

It does help, thanks very much. Any info helps me as like i said...im a paris virgin and i need to know the quickest/cheapest way to do things. Maybe there is a day pass we can buy for all zones for the Wednesday. Or maybe it would be cheaper to but the train + entrance ticket from the tourist office and pay seperately for any journeys from the airport to the station and then from Disneyland to our hotel and the eiffel tower. How much is the boat, here do you get on and where can you get off. If you can get on at the eiffel tower and off at an area where all the lively bars/restaurant/clubs are then we could do this....does anybody have any advice/facts on this idea??

    Thanks

    Hi again,

Amm i see what you mean about the passes.
How about this : For wednesdays trip buy the entrance ticket plus the train fare ticket only from the tourist office.
For wednsday evening / night you can use the train ticket that you bought for the travel to Disney .. just make sure when you buy it if it is indeed train + bus travel card trype of ticket or not.
When you get back into Gare De Nord ( Wednesday evening ) then buy the 1 day pass for Zone 1-3 .. and use this only for Thursdays travel ( u validate it the next morning when you actually use it .. say on the bus ).
Boats : a few places you can catch them and a few types of them as well. We went for the Baotbus ( i think thats how it is spelt ). Hop on , Hop off type of boat , pick them from Notre Dame , Hotel DeVill , Lourve , Eiffel tower , Museum D'Orsay etc .. there are 2-3 stops more in between that i forget the names of. The tickets are 1 day pass ( 11 euro ) and 2 day pass ( 13 euro ).
Suggestion : Wednesday come back from Disney , using the tickets you have got go to Notre Dame in the evening and then catch the boat( get the 2 day pass REMEMBER THIS PARTICULAR BOAT LAST SAILING I THINK IS 7 PM ) to Eiffel tower , go see Eiffel tower in evening / late night to see the illuminated city and all the monuments. Then use the boat for the next day when you go sight seeing or go visting museums.

Are you planning on doing any museums at all ? Or monuments ?

Please excuse me for my spelling mistakes and the suggestion .... i mean no harm and only trying to help ... :)

    Thanks

    Hi,

Thanks for this. We are actually staying at the Eiffel tower(the hilton) so would be looking to get a boat from there to wherever a more exciting, trendy area is in tems of restaurant/bars/clubs(iv heard that the eiffel tower area does not really cater well for this). We would likely still be in Disneyland or on our way back at 7pm so we would miss this type of boat(planning to head out for dinner around 10pm) so i wander if their other hop-on, hop-off types of boats running at that time?

    Thanks again

    ok

having lived in paris myself i cna give you some advice: go to the latin quarter for restaurants (above the city island) but DO NOT GET DRAGGED IN BY PEOPLE OUTSIDE. Go tot the restaurants which look honest with no one outside promising wonders and handing leaflets, they will be disgusting and the service will be terrible.

As for the cheapest sigthseeing: the Louvres if for free on every first Sunday of the month.

travel passes are a very good bargain.

Paris is a wonderful place, and it is very easy to get to one place form another via the metro.

Places not ot linger at night in the metro: Chatelet les halles is full of junkies at night, try to sitck to bigger groups of party goers if you have to interchange there, Republique is also a station to avoid at night.

There are lots of cheap fast food joints in the 11th quarter, especially Rue du Temple.

All in all just enjoy yourself BUT if you have to ask anyone for directions: try to speak a bit of French no matter how lame it is. French people tend to perceive tourists who can tbe bothered to learn a bit of language as arrogant. If you mumble a few "merci" "bonjour" etc... they will be touched and will try to help you as best as they can.

Thanks frenchgirl. We are there for a wednesday night only, but i have took on-bard what you sayed. Is there any places you would reccommend. How can we get to the latin quarter from the eiffel tower....is a boat trip an option. How much would a taxi back to our hotel at the eiffel tower from the latin quarter cost at night??

    Thanks

pbright... i would not use taxis in France at all, they are bl00dy expensive!!!

use the metro, it is quick and easy, the only times you would have to worry about them is around midnight, most services run until 1am, the first and last services time is sometimes written on the panel for the line number and direction on the platform.

The latin quarter is just above the City island (the one with Notre-Dame on). It is quite far from the Tower IMO so you might be wasting your time there.

If you want to cram stuff in, use the Metro.

If you go to Disneyland Paris: dont bother with the Walt Disney Studios. Having worked there, i can tell you it is utter sh1te!!! Only go to the "original" disneyland, use the fastpass tickets as much as possible and bring your own food because food is very pricey.

Do not bother with sweets and choccolate shop: they used to be fille dup with nice traditional candy a few years back, but now the merchandise consists of stuff striaght out of Masterfoods factory (Mars, Kitkat, Twix, Sneakers, etc...). Nothing out of the ordinary.

I think we might need to take a taxi at night to get back from th latin quarter or wherever we end up going out at night, back to our hotel bseide the eiffel tower.

We dont intend doing Disney Studios, we dont have enough time. We wouldnt get there till 12ish as we are coming straight from Beuvais airport.....but on a wednesday this should hopefull still leave us enough time for two 21yo to do all the things we would want to do at the park.

Its what travel ticket to get and how, and where to go out at night are the areas that i need info on. I know that different nights of the week certain bars/clubs and areas are busier than other. Its a wednesday night we would be there.....do you know how we could find out where to go on a Wednesday night.....any sites? How long and how much would a taxi late at night from the latin quarter to our hotel cost? Also does anybody have any clue whats the quickest way to get from Disneyland to the the eiffel tower(where are hotel is) and how long it would approx take?

    Thanks again.
    much help.

You'll get loads of travel info for Paris here http://www.ratp.fr/
Disneyland is about 1 1/2 hours away from the Eiffel Tower using public transport.
When I looked into it, the cheapest travel card was called a Mobilis. It's the one locals use, and is cheaper than the Paris Visite cards.
    Have a fantastic time.

1 1/2 hours to the eiffel tower from Disneyland.....wow this is much longer than i thought, can anybody confirm this. As money and time is an issue we need to find the perfect balance in terms of what travel tickets to buy.

Here is the transport we plan on using.....fingers crossed theirs a Paris expert here that can help me out.

Wednesday: Beuvais straight to Disneyland, Disneyland to our hotel at the eiffel tower, eiffel tower to wherever we are going to go out to for the night; which will possibly be the latin quarter, then back to the hotel...this will be in the early hours so a taxi will be the likely option, then thursday do some sightseeing in Paris then back to Beuvais at night.

Also, how far is the latin quarter from the Eiffel tower. If it is far and costly(the taxi back to our hotel at the eiffel tower) then it may not be worth while going out here. Is their any other lively, hip and busy areas in Paris for young partyers to go to on a Wednesday night??

    Thanks.
