Morroccan currency-is this legal?

Options
Some reports are saying that its illegal to take currency in or out of Morrocco.
Thomas Global Exchange are saying they sell it and that law is outdated.

Which is true?
Edit-just looked at the fo site-it seems to be saying it is non convertible and its export is prohibited.

On martins money maximiser- are they refferred to as uae dirhams?

Confused

I always thought it was a closed currency but some advice on the net is very conflicting.

UAE Dirhams and Morroccan Dirhams are not the same. I just used my Nationwide debit card at cashpoints. No waste, no fuss.

Moroccan Dirhams are definitely non exportable, and therefore it should not be possible to buy them outside the country.

Donnie is right, there are plenty of cashpoints around to change currency.

In Arrivals at Marrakech, there are two banks (well, two little cubicles!) and cash points. In Departures there are the same. These are open for all flights.
    Gone ... or have I?

And in case the airline doesn't mention it, when you arrive in Morocco you need to fill in an arrivals card with all your details to present at passport control. The cards are available in the passport hall, but you need to fill it in before you get to the passport cubicle, otherwise a grumpy immigration officer.

And you need to do a departure card to leave as well (again available just before passport control).

after going to morocco earlier this year i can only relay the curency situation as a pain in the pants. You can get dirhams easily enough from a cash point but it is little short of impossible to changethem back so only ge the bare minimum that you need as youcan par for a lot of stuff with card or in a lot of cases euros. good luck.
:D The glass is always half full, no exceptions !!:D

THanks. Glad i checked because I have been offered them for my daughter by Thomas Exchange Global. She hasnt got a Nationwide Card (only Lloyds who charge quite a bit for using abroad) and probably wont get one for just one trip so i think i may get her travellers cheques,if the hotel accepts them (I shall email them).
Thanks for the advice. She is arriving at Agadir though ,not Marrakech.

You can* certainly buy them in Spain in the areas that have ferries to Morocco - and presumably sell them back, or how did they get them to sell?

    * or could - this goes back to peseta days

Strictly illegal in Moroccan terms, but still done.
