Hi, im going Agadir,Morocco for Christmas, any tips on getting Moroccan Dirham at a good rate? Ive read that the exchange rate is the same in the country wherever you exchange (bank, airport, city) is this true? thanks in advance

One tip, don't take pounds or dollars!
We found most the locals worked in dirhams and had to get our currency changed at the hotel. However the hotel reps (if your going with an agent) will take pounds happily ofcause.
There are cash machines over there though so you might get the best rate using your carad through them, especially if you have a nationwide flex account.0 -
There are ATMs and bank exchanges at the airport. I wouldn't exchange money in your hotel, they are likely to charge quite a commission.Gone ... or have I?0

Every time I've been to Morocco, I have taken £ or used my card. Have no idea why Simbak2k suggests otherwise.
I was in Agadir sixteen years ago and didn't have any trouble changing cash at the proper rate.
Indeed the same again, in Tangier some years later.
On a recent trip to Fez I used a card.0 -

To be honest our hotel was awful so wouldn't surprise me if it was our hotel, however all the prices were in dirhams also.0 -
I wouldn't be surprised if your hotel gave you a poor rate. Hotel exchanges should be only be used in emergencies.0

We were in Tangiers and Casablanca last month and the locals were happy to accept euros or dollars, but preferred euros. I would forget about getting dirhams as it is a currency that can't be taken out the country and it really isnt necessary.
But you absolutely must bargain hard for everything, as they will offer goods at ridiculously high prices and discount down to a 10th of the starting cost.0 -
....and still cheat you.0

Just returned from Marrakesh and whilst they would take Euros the exchange rate was pretty poor also bearing in mind that you've already had to change Sterling into Euros. Stick with Dirhams and I found it best, cost wise, to get cash from ATM's and pay for what you can on a credit card, especially if you have a Nationwide card.Age & Treachery Will Always Overcome Youth & Enthusiasm !!
