Which Digital Camera?

I am after advice on buying a slimline digital camera, just for normal use as I am not a professional. I have been looking and there are so many to choose from! I need it just for social use, so something that fits in the pocket easy. (and that syncs well with a Mac).

I have got a couple of hundred pounds to spend and need advice on which one to buy and where from.

Plus if it is best to buy now or after christmas in the sales?

Easy to use and small is the key aspect. Any advice?

Have a look at the Sony Cybershot W70 as a comparison to the Fuji mentioned above. Although the lcd is 2.5" compared to 3.0" - the Sony does come with a viewfinder. There is a slightly cheaper Sony..the W50 (7megapixel and 6 megapixel I think are the only differences)

Detailed reviews (about 6-8 pages each!) of both cameras here:

    and here:

Size data is given in the reviews; the Sony is fractionally slimmer, a bit wider (6mm) but less height (6mm) than the Fuji
  • The sony cybershot W50 from pixmania had a good enough Which? report.

  • Can I be sneaky and join this thread with a question please? Also looking for a slimline digital camera but with half the budget. Is for penniless daughter going abroad for several months and she is a keen photographer so may well need good resolution to blow up picture size. I can't really go above max £100. Is that do-able? All advice welcome.:o

If you want slimline then the Sony T series of cameras are very thin and very portable - I have a T33 for when I dont want to take my dSLR about with me.

http://www.photoshop-store.org.uk/store/product.php?productid=2229 is their current middle of the range one and then there is the T50 which is the top of this series. (they are available in other colours than the one linked btw)

  • Very pleased with my Canon Powershot A530. Not the smallest camera but has both a screen, viewfinder and works with AA batteries. The pics are really nice. You can either point and shoot or use the numerous settings. Works great with a PC and even better with a Mac - you just plug it in and go. Was only £95 at Amazon when I got it.

I have just come back from Cuba and a chap I met had a Pentax Optica W20 which was excellent ..he was even shooting stills and movies under water it also has sound and a very large screen ..battery life was also good ...around £168. I have a 3mp vivicam which is great value at around £35 but i like the waterproof feature of the Pentax so will be getting one when I have recovered my finances..
