Suspicions that foreign power giants are picking the pockets of British consumers, while looking after those at home, seemed to be confirmed by figures published yesterday.
Britain has faced the highest energy price rises in Western Europe in the past year, while countries such as Germany and France have seen falls.

If you read this the EU is going to look into it.....they seem to agree brits are being ripped off...typicalIf you find yourself in a fair fight, then you have failed to plan properly
I've only ever been wrong once! and that was when I thought I was wrong but I was right0 -

Typical Daily Mail Rubbish!
Note that they talk about highest rises - not that we have the highest prices! In fact our prices - particularly for gas - are some of the lowest in western Europe.
The conveniently ignore the fact that Sterling has fallen massively against the US$ and Euro. They obviously appreciate the effect that has on prices, by why mention facts; when they can wind up their readers!!
I wonder if this is the same Daily Mail Energy 'Expert'(I use the term loosely!) who wrote their Energy Savings supplement a couple of weeks ago. According to him/her you can change your boiler for a modern condensing boiler and the cost fitted is between £350 and £400 with payback in 18 months.!!
Someone should tell BG that is all it costs!!
P.S.
The BBC article is another aspect completely - the argument there is that energy prices are too high in Europe - including UK - not like the Dail Mail stating the UK are being singled out for unfair treatment.0 -
So true Cardew!
However it is a pity that there are so few British Companies that own our energy interest and so much profit go back abroad.
The BBC is the rumblings of OFGEM's report, mind you it'll still take at least a year+ to see those things as part of the supplier license."Self trained industry expert who has worked in Electricty Distribution, Electricity & Gas Supply and currently works as an independent consultant in industry processes to particapants in the industry" :eek:0 -
Nothing will probably be done as per usual. Brits do appear to be ripped off in all things, not just utilities. I have both gas and electricity with Atlantic and received a letter from them IN OCTOBER telling me that they had increased their charges by 30% and 29% and.....wait for it.....SINCE AUGUST!!!!!!:j Got the loan and now down from £9k to £4.5k. Trying to get a better mortgage deal now but thanks to ex-husband I am being knocked back..... Still in a better place than two years ago. Have faith!:j0

They are allowed 65 working days(13 weeks) to inform you that they have increased their prices.
This stipulation by ofgem(the Regulator) is to the customer's advantage!!!
This is because you have 10 working days after formal notification of the rise to inform them that you are switching and they have to charge you at the pre-increase price until you leave - so you can have several months at the old cheaper price.
It is an argument that all European energy prices could be cheaper. However it is not true that the UK alone are ripped off.0
