Ok the scenario is I have windows- all double glazed with radiators under them agaisnt the wall.
Logic tells me the best length for curtains are ones that rest just on the window sill- not beyond it and certainly not so that it lies over the top of the radiator......now is that right??

I have exactly the same in my house and just bought curtains that hang to the ground. When the radiators are on, I either prop the curtains up on the window sill or open them. Logic says that having them to the window sill won't swallow the heat in the window alcove, but the curtains quite frankly will probably look naff.0

I always thought you bought curtains about 6-12inches below the windowsill, and you tuck the curtains behind the radiator for best energy efficiency?Everybody is equal; However some are more equal than others.0

i agree traveller - they probably will look naff .....but would like to know. The problem with opening them is that at night people would be able to look straight into the house! ( and do not want to get additional blinds etc)
basmic- yes well that is how i have seen most curtains but when you tuck them behind they get all hot from the heat from the back of the radiator which in effect hasnt been able to get into the room but produced warm curtains???0 -
I too used to tuck my curtains behind the radiator thinking that it'll prevent the heat going behind the curtains but then read this...

It works even if your house isn't in west norfolk!0 -
Excellent milkybars, thank you! Glad I'm doing the right thing by propping mine onto the window sill. So the OP can still buy nice long floor length curtains.0
