WARNING Re ASDA Monery Off Coupon Policy....

Dear All,
Please be warned, according to a very pleasant cashier at my local ASDA, their company policy re Money Off Coupons changed yesterday (Sat) - the staff were apparantly all shown a memo she told me - they now will not accept manufacturers money-off coupons if you do not buy the product(this has always been the case for their own issued coupons, but now it applies to all coupons).
The cashier told me she'd already had several annoyed customers and had to call the manager to explain the new policy. Herself, she said she thinks it is unfair and stupid, but she said they were told any staff who are found to ignore the rules will be disciplined and even sacked!
Just thought I'd let you all know - and maybe avoid some embarrassment at the tills - but maybe you could check it out in your local stores and report back?
Regards,
FE

read this on a few posts and I'm still waiting to be told (not that I work the tills regularly, but you'd have thought that they would have briefed the whole store so everyone knows!)0

Just used manufacturers coupons in my local Asda....no problem. Didnt buy the items.0

i had this problem 3 weeks ago at my local store thought it was the checkout operator being akward as she took the first one but wouldnt take the other 5 I had, for same reason as you have posted.
however tesco still take them.0 -
Yeh, I work there - it is now policy not to take any - I don't know the reasons behind that decision.
Before hand, we could take them but only take 10% of the value from each coupon off the final shop.
This policy came into effect about 3 or 4 weeks ago - store-wide.
If a cashier takes them, it's on their own back and they could be in serious trouble as we have already been told so it all depends on what till you go through, who cares about their job the most.0 -
I've just been to asda and used a few no questions asked, though when i looked at my till receipt instead of taking the two £1 coupons off she has charged me 2 x 87p for the original product i got it from so i've ended up paying an extra £1.74 instead of saving £2, think she scanned the wrong bar code or the coupon isn't working!
Saved the receipt - will go back when i get chance. the rest of my coupons came off just fine though.0 -
How about if you use the self serve?;)0

So no change to the usual policy as far as I can see in my store. I'll ask the checkout staff again next time I'm in though.:smileyhea Proud Mummy of 2 :smileyheaTotally addicted to Boots glitches & the Next sales!0 -

You used the £1 MOC from the small Oasis bottles. When you cut them out, the barcode on the outside that is used to charge you the 87p for the bottle is on the opposite side of the barcode for the £1 off. It is very easy for the till op, or the tills, to scan it the wrong way round. Perhaps a little tape over the wrong one would help?"Life was easier when I didn't have a clue"0 -
I sent an email to Asda Customer Services last week re: their policy on accepting coupons. Their reply on Friday was basically that they take any coupons as long as they sell the product, and are not other retailer specific.
this bit was interesting...............
"and any store that fails to comply with this needs to be reported at our Head Office by contacting 0113 2419833"0
