Stupid question from someone who should know better - cinnamon toast

Options
But how do you make cinnamon toast? I love the stuff and there is one little cafe in Stroud where I used to gorge myself on it but I never plucked up the courage to ask how it was done. It's probably really simple and I will kick myself but if someone can excuse my stupidity and tell me I would be truly grateful.

  • Ooh ooh, I think I know, my mum used to do this. All she did was butter hot toast and sprinkle over a mix of sugar and cinammon according to taste then pop under the grill.

That's the only cinnamon toast I know I'm afriad.

Thank you so much, that sounds exactly like the one I used to have.

  • I make it like Alfietinker too. You have to grill it until little holes appear in the sugar ;) and use plenty of butter. Gosh I haven't made it for years, must try it on the kids....mmm... Christmas breakfast....

    I've been Money Tipped!
4 teaspoons sugar to 1 teaspoon cinnamon. I make mine in bulk and fill a sugar sifter with it for easy use. (Can you tell we love it too!;) )

  • Could you mix the sugar and cinammon into the butter and just spread on hot toast? Make enough for say a week and store in the fridge? I think I'd quite like this for breakfast but wouldn't have the time to toast, spread, sprinkle and grill first thing in the morning.

Good plan - I don't like doing toast under the grill too often as it's so much more economical in the toaster :)

I think you'd have to use icing sugar (or sugar blitzed in the FP) as the sugar wouldn't dissolve. A kind of Cinnamon butter, brandy butter stylee! ;)

  • I think that's an excellent idea kathyd :T I'm sure that would work. It's not helping with my diet though  :D

Btw, I like the crunchiness you get with the sugar, so I'm not sure icing sugar would work for me ;)
