Real Christmas tree for garden?
I almost daren't say Christmas in August but I will anyway!
We are currently 'landscaping' part of our garden and are half-way through building an 'L' shape deck and we were sat on the finished bit and thought that a potted Christmas tree would look great at the corner of it over winter when we have put away the table & chairs.
I have tried to google 'real Christmas trees' but haven't found out much about keeping a potted tree. Does keeping it in a pot 'stunt/restrict its growth' or would I need to buy a dwarf one? We have 2 old dolly tubs (already planted with Cordylines although not doing too well), we were thinking of using one of these to plant one in.
We could plant a Christmas tree in the garden too, next to the decking, but with no knowledge at all I would worry about the roots and the height of it. And is this even the right time of year to plant a fir tree?
Any advice welcome... even if it's to say 'forget it'!!
Thanks in advance.

By all means plant a tree in the garden but not close to the house, conifer roots grow flat and outwards so will probably affect the foundations. A 30ft tree has probably 30ft roots and so forth.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

I dont know much about potted trees im afraid but...
My parents had a potted xmas tree one year, thinking they would save money and bring it into the house once a year for xmas... we just didnt reckon on all the ants that had made a little home in the pot and very quickly invaded our front room! lovely! What matters most is how well you walk through the fire0 -

Yeah, so I thought... that's why my first thought was one in a pot.My parents had a potted xmas tree one year, thinking they would save money and bring it into the house once a year for xmas... we just didnt reckon on all the ants that had made a little home in the pot and very quickly invaded our front room!
Thanks but I had visions of it sitting in a pot on the deck with lights around it and lights also twisting along the handrail of the deck rail. I think I've seen too many American Christmas movies!DEBT FREE BY 60Starting Debt 21st August 2019 = £11,024
