Too Hot Chilli

This is sort of moneysaving and I need help.

OH has just made a chilli for a get together tonight. Trouble is it was supposed to be mild and its far too hot.

Anyone have any ideas on how to take the heat out - Ive got two big pans of the stuff and dont want it to go to waste.

Any suggestions would be appreciated

    you could always add more veg
    tinned tomatoes
    grated carrot and grated potato

    I think you can add coconut milk or plain yoghurt to cool it down.

    I dont really want to add more meat to it etc. as I already have enough to feed a dozen people and we'd end up eating chilli for the next 6 months.(But I have a house full of males so maybe not a good idea ;) ) But if that is the only option I might have to.

    Elona am going to buy some natural yoghurt and try it in a small bit to see what happens so thanx.

    But if anyone has any other ideas please post.:D

    Let us know how you get on as I almost blew hubbies head off with a curry this week and did not have any natural yoghurt in the house.

    This may be a silly idea but could you make your own raita (natural yoghurt with grated cucumber and mint) and have it as a side dish to cool the meal down?

    It could make it look "meant" rather than an accident.

    If the meal is mainly for men they will probably see it as a challenge to eat a "hot" chilli.

    Add mushrooms because for some reason they mop up the majority of the chilli, then you could scoop them out and have 'spicy mushrooms' as a side dish!

    Does adding bread or 1/2 a potato help or does that remove salt :confused:

    Otherwise, I'd say the same as Elona, serve ratia or sour cream and make out you meant it to be that hot, are they men or mice? ;):D

    i know adding potato to dishes helps remove the saltiness so it might work with chilli too! - like the mushrooms, sling some spuds in and then remove them before serving and say they are "patatas brava"

    adding more kidney beans might help too - I like all these ideas :)

    Definitely add a raw potato and simmer away for a while. If you've got an old sprouty one that you don't mind 'wasting' then use that (peel first!) or if you have newer ones, you could chunk them up, put them in with the chilli until they're cooked, remove them and then crisp them up in the oven to make potato wedges - YUM :)
