Apologies if this has been asked a thousand times already, but we are moving and coming over all "good life". we're trying to save money and we thought getting a breadmaker would be a good idea. im looking for a reasonable priced one that does everything!
Can anyone post names and guidline prices? or any great offers on at the mo?
Thanks!
Emma

If you can afford it, the one everyone raves about is the Panasonic SD253. If you do a search on breadmakers, you will find some threads. It all depends on what you want it to do, the Panasonic sounds like the Rolls Royce of breadmakers and you can make jam and cakes in it.You're only young once, but you can be immature forever0

I got one yesterday, although I am yet to use it (but it is def going on tonight, for a fresh loaf tomorrow morning). But it does everything (jam, cakes etc).
The price on the MR site is very good (less than £30). They go for more on ebay

I have this one - does everything the Panny does plus more
Mine is well used and turns out lovely soft loaves.
I haven't searched to see if it's cheaper elsewhere, but at first glance the Argos price isn't bad. I paid about £64 for mine, when it was on offer, although mine is white, not stainless steel.0 -

You can't make jam in the Panasonic unfortunately.0 -

Thanks for that, I was convinced that you can. If I am going to splash out on a new breadmaker then I might as well go for one that can make jamYou're only young once, but you can be immature forever0 -
I've recently got the MR Fastbake one already mentioned - it was £29.55 on the MR website at the time. I've only used it 3 times but very pleased so far - the other day I made the "French bread" in their instruction book and it did indeed taste and feel just like French bread - not baguette-shaped though of course!0

Why buy one that makes jam????? Jam is very easy to make in a large saucepan and you will get more, I think breadmaker only makes enough for a couple of jars at a time.
I use the bottom of a pressure cooker, makes 6lbs of jam or marmalade at a time.Was 13st 8 lbs,Now 12st 11 Lost 10 1/4lbs since I started on my diet.0 -
Hi cheekyemma,
These older threads might help you to decide:
Which Breadmaker to get?
kenwood breadmaker opinions wanted!
Cookworks Breadmaker
Durabrand BM - any good?
The Morphy Richards fastbake BM Club
I am in love with my Panasonic breadmaker
Also if you have a look through The Complete Breadmaking collection there are many more threads where you can read other users opinions on different breadmakers.

I have the same breadmaker as Ticklemouse the Russel Hobbs Breadman Ultimate and like her I think its wonderful. It makes jam and pizza dough as well as a lot of other bits and bobs like bread lol
and the recipe booklet for it, is quite good too. It gives info for 3 diferent sizes of loaves, can add in extra tasty bits eg seeds for the top near the end of the cook cycle too.. Its fantastic, I have had mine for 2 years and its on constantly. I would recommend it wholeheartedly :T
I love this site! :j0 -
I'll put in a good word for the Morphy Richards Fastbake one mentioned above. I got mine about ten days ago and it's fantastic. It looks sleek and shiny in the corner of my kitchen, and I've made loads of bread (we eat a lot of bread here) as well as pizza bases, and it's all been excellent. The little paddle thing that does the mixing drops down when it's done it's job, so you don't get such a large hole in the bottom of the loaf which is quite clever.
I had a problem with my old machine because the bread would never come out of the tin, but no such issues with this one. A few firm taps and the bread comes out beautifully. My children love what I've baked and we haven't had shop bought bread since my new breadmaker arrived.
Thoroughly recommended and a complete bargain from Morphy Richards Website at the moment. (I would have liked the Panasonic, but this is just under a third of the price, and I'm thrilled with it and feel I made a good choice.)0
