Durabrand BM - any good?

Options
Has anyone tried the durabrand BM (currently approx £24 in asda)?
I recently borrowed a panasonic & was impressed enough to want to purchase my own.

BUT... have read warnings that cheap ones do not produce such good results, and that many people end up never using them.

I've bought other durabrand products in the past (home cinema system/dvd player) and have been happy with them.

Any comments would be appreciated, thanks x

I've not used one before. Not even heard of Durabrand! But I did buy a cheap breadmaker recently. Mine was a Hinari, which cost almost £30 from Amazon. I've been very impressed. It can do 3 different loaf sizes, you can have dark, medium or light crust, lots of different programmes, timer etc. It has everything the more expensive ones have.

If you've used Durabrand before and been pleased with it then I'd go for the breadmaker. If it does turn out to be not so good you can take it back to Asda. They are quite good at taking things back. I'm sure they gaurentee all their electricals for a year or so too. I don't think you can go wrong really.

Thanks sarah, hadn't thought of the possibility of taking it back. I might just double check instore what their return policy is if a product isn't actually faulty.

Asda's policy is :28 days no quibble refund policy if you just change your mind, then 1 year guarantee for faults. Keep your reciept though, as they can only put the refund on a gift card without it.

Thank you. I'll feel much happier about buying it when I know I've got that guarantee.

I have jsut bought a bread maker - an own brand from Superdrug - it was reduced from £40 for £14.99. It has loads of settings including jam and cake and 3 different crust colours. Haven't used it yet but full of optimism.

Ive got the Durabrand BM - its really good! I havent had a bad loaf yet, they all seem to rise (which i wasnt expecting for a cheapie BM TBH).

I too wanted to get a BM but I didnt want to pay £100 for one and then it sit in the cupboard, thats why i thought well for £24 its not to sad if i dont use it - but its excellent value for the money.

It also looks the same as a Morphy Richards fastbake.

give it a go, and if no good then take it back.

    Thanks shez.
Everyone who knows me laughs that I always find the best bargains (like it's a bad thing!!) and won't pay over the odds for anything. I've always insisted though, that I'll pay if I need to - sometimes you get what you pay for.
That's why I was prepared to pass this by in favour of a more expensive one.
I'm very happy to know I won't have to. :D

obviously I cant say what they are like in comparison to the panasonic one alot of people have on here, but mine seems fine. Like i said you can always try it and take it back within the 28 days if you dont like it and then buy the more expensive one - so you wont have lost out.

let me know how you get on.

I got a bargain one of similar price range too - just not from Superdrug, I bought mine in Wilko's more than a year ago and it's still going strong. Actually, I used my Tesco vouchers instore to buy my basics, withdrew the cash equivalent and then went to Wilko's to get the BM ... so I suppose in one way, I could say it didn't cost me anything ;)

Shez - I bought my cheapo one on the same principles as yourself and I wasn't a big fan of BM's prior to owning one :o I also confess to being a recipe-lazy cook in that I will follow the recipes to the letter when first making something, but it's not long before I add a dib of this and a dash of that. Still with successful results :D

JailhouseBabe - let us know how you get on! :):)

I bought it yesterday, but it's still in the box. Had to make birthday cake for twin nephews 1st birthday (today).
    I'm tearing my hair out!

Cake book said recipe could be prepared in food processor. Mine couldn't handle it & motor burnt out.

Oven door doesn't quite close properly, so 1st cake sank in middle, decided to make another & sandwich them.
2nd cake fell to pieces removing from tin.
3rd cake (& these are all 1hour in oven!) burnt round edges and sank in middle.

    The cake's now rock hard.
I've also spent a fortune on icing, colouring & wotnot.

Will have to go to m&s & buy one on way to the party.

As for the BM, I'll try it tonight on the timer & let you know tomorrow how it turns out.
