Bread and Butter Pudding- Queen of puddings

Hi

I wonder if you can help?

I've searched the recipes and everywhere else I can think of but I'm struggling to find a recipe for bread and butter pudding - the one you have with custard...yummmm...

I have a ton of stale bread just begging to be made into a bread and butter pudding -not a bread pudding mind!

I think this might also be known as 'Queen of Puddings' - I used to have a recipe in my old 'Dairy Cookbook' which now belongs to DD1

No pressure but I fancied this for tea tonight......Any ideas??

Hi Corners, this is the recipe I use!

    6 slices bread
    50g(2oz)butter
    50g(2oz)dried fruit
    40g caste sugar
    2 eggs
    1pint milk

Butter the bread and slice into fingers or squares.Put half into the dish sprinkle with the fruit and half the sugar then add the rest of the bread, buttered side up.Sprinkle with the rest of the sugar.Beat the eggs and milk and strain into the dish oover the bread. Leave to stand for half an hour to soak it up then bake 160C or gas3 for 3/4 to 1 hour or until it is set. You can of course make many additions or alterations such as using marmalad which is lovely or adding cinnamon .Anything you like! There was a huge thread about it but like you I cant fing it! :D
    Enjoy!

forgot to say make sure the dish is greased first!

  • Hiya, I am sure there is a recipe about, but my B&B pud is:

Butter bread and fill a large cooking dish with it, cut into squares, triangles, soldiers, anything you like really, just fill the bowl any way you like. Add a tablespoon of sugar or jam or honey or syrup to each layer of B&B as you go along, you can add dried fruit too if you like it or even some spices like nutmeg or cinnamon too.

Knock-up some egg custard (about 3 - 4 eggs per pint of milk and your sweetener of choice and some more spice if you like) and pour over the bread until the dish is at least 3/4 full and leave for at least 1/2 hour for the bread to soak up the egg-custard.

Bung it in the oven at about 170 for an hour or so until it looks a nice colour.

Serve with birds custard or on its own if you like.
