Google will find you loads of recipes, many of them American. Here's just one that I found:

This one is similar in that it is dark and fruity.http://www.deliaonline.com/recipes/spiced-damson-chutney,1652,RC.html

The only thing is, you'll have to wait till September to make it. Plums work instead of damsons, but you'll have to wait for those too. It is much nicer than branston too ;)

The word 'pickle' is a misnomer in this case as it is definitely a chutney. Pickles are whole or chopped fruits and veg preserved in spiced vinegar.

I agree with Thriftlady - this one is delicious, and much nicer than Branston. I've tried it with Victoria plums, too, but found it to be quite bland - much tastier with damsons.

In August 2005 we camped in Guernsey. A lovely family with 5 or 6 kids were in the tent across from us. I think they were from Bath. On the day that they left, the lady gave me a jar of Homemade chutney (she couldnt fit it into the car!!!) It was the loveliest chutney I have ever tasted and had it every day with my crusty bread and cheese on the beach. If you are that lady, please let me have the recipe. Many thanks

Here's one... I haven't made it so can't tell you if it's any good though, and you might want to scale it down... this recipe is for 4 pints!
    TOP MONEYSAVING TIP

Make your own Pot Noodles using a flower pot, sawdust and some old shoe laces. Pour in boiling water, stir then allow to stand for two minutes before taking one mouthful, and throwing away. Just like the real thing!

There are some links to recipes in the Recipe for Branston pickle? thread. Making a pickle or chutney is a great way to use up left over fruit and veg so I tend to chuck anything I have in with the recipes too :).
