Open a high interest paying savings account, check your meter readings, pay a certain amount each month to cover the power used, when someone comes onto you, maybe several years down the line, for payment, negotiate a rebate due to their negligence, and pocket the difference, problem solvedDon`t steal - the Government doesn`t like the competition0

If you look at your meter it should have a plate with the serial number plus also say 'property of xxxxx electricity company', I would contact them with serial number and the reading and say 'as you installed this meter and 'own' it can you please start billing me!! >:(0

its the responsibility of your housing developer to advise the energy suppliers of all meter details including handover meter readings...
they should have provided you with a handover document when you moved in, telling you who will be supplying your energy etc.
the usual problem is that housing developers have such a big backlog with so many new homes being built to keep up with demand.
if this is the case, the developer should take responsibility for the delay in you receiving a bill and offer to at least pay a percentage of it. :-/
alternatively the energy company should at least offer to spread your first bill over the same period it was allowed to built up over.
do u know who the energy supplier is?
if not u could try asking a neighbour?0 -
Irrespective of who the developer has set you up with as supplier, you should get yourself a sensible supplier asap. Then you'll know who to nag about billing you, and you'll get to pay less.
I would compare prices using one of the comparison services, and change suppliers.0 -

unfortunately i doubt you will be able to change supplier until you register and have an active account with the existing one :(
your chosen supplier will need your supply number to make any application
your best bet is to try the meter point administration service for your area. they will also be able to tell you who is currently supplying your electricity.
energywatch should be able to give you the number for your region and may even contact them on your behalf.
however, if your existing supplier has no record of you and no active account set up yet - its probable that any transfer application will be automatically rejected.
this is a really common problem.
you really do need to get this sorted before you consider changing supplier...

Hey i am really impresssed by the responses! The savings idea is a good one for a start.
I have been in touch with ebergywatch who asked me to contact a number which brought me to a dead end.Coz this is not a run ofthe mill problem they were actually gobsmacked when I said a year with out bill! Then a nice lady said "i will sort it all,be assuerred"and I thought that is it done. But then nothing heard since then!!
Anyway thanks for all the advice.

I have the same sort of issue (new build still no bill)! We moved into our last this time last year since Jan I have been trying to find out who our supplier is, have spoken to Energywatch they gave me loads of numbers (All 0870 which I wasn't happy about but got the landline numbers from the Saynoto0870.com website). Still no joy! Even with the meter serial number begining and current readings. I was able to get electricity supplier who tried to get me to pay all at once (no way Jose!) so I neogiated with them and paid it off over 6months .. . . .
I saw the note saying that the builders should be responsible I tried this by speaking to them in June, they claimed to have handed the details over (still can't tell me who to!) However Bryant Homes are worse than useless anyway!
The builders have now finished the estate (earlier this month) and left so the details should now have been handed over to the gas supplier. Still no gas bill yet, so I have emailed engerywatch the full details and am waiting to see if I get the details of the gas supplier. Then as it's their fault/builders they can wait for the money as I pay it off monthly.
Any updates for people that have had simular problems would be great0 -
I had same issue, turned out the power company was mailing the plot number not my house number for 6 months.
COntact your developer and get them to sort it out - they will know who provided the power to them in the first place.
Derricks idea of the saving account in the meantime is a good one. I would do this once you have told the developer to sort it and not worry about it again until the mystery company contacts you. Might also be a good idea to record the meter reading of whern you moved into the house and then keep record of it on the anniversary of this date each month.
