Is it worth buying dollars now???

Options
Hi,

We are going to California in 2010 (long way off I know but with a little help from Tescos, should be pretty cheap and I like to be organised).... anyway is it worth buying some dollars now.

We went in 2005 and got $4100 from £2500 am I right in guessing we would get much more $ for our money now and is it worth getting £500 now and topping up when have some spare cash?? We are definately going in 2010 as I want to take our lo to Disneyland for his birthday.
Any thoughts appreciated.

There isnt a definitive answer. If there was we could all be rich while buying and selling currency.

You can get nearly $2 to the pound at the moment, more if you use a nationwide card while abroad (but that isnt what you are asking).

around $2 is the best it has been for years, but who knows what the future will bring?

Also not forgetting the interest your £500 will earn if left in a high interest accont for another 3 years

    .....

  • i'll put it more simply.. how would you feel if you'd exchanged your £'s for $'s a few months ago when the exchange rate was $1.90 to the pound (the best it had been for years )?
as someone has already said if you could predict what will happen with currencies you would be living in a mansion earning millions a year.
as for the companies offering exchange rates in the future they are putting your money into their accounts and earning the interest from it

At the Interbank rate of $2.03 you would get $5075. The tourist rate at most High Street places, eg the Post Office, is $1.94 so you would get $4850.

You can order currency from www.crowncurrencyexchange.co.uk for delivery in March at $2.10. I ordered from them a few months ago for delivery in October and got $2.00.
