i was just wondering whether anyone here had experimented with own brand versions of baileys and could recommend a good one to me? i want to make a baileys chocolate mousse for mothers day, but the only baileys we have in the house is the end of MILs bottle from christmas, which i would feel bad using
im loathe to fork out a tenner on a full fize bottle when i only need a spoonful or two, but it seems to be better value for money to pay circa £6 for an own brand version than pay over the odds for baileys miniatures.
any thoughts?

I do this version which is fine to drink - you can adjust the amount of alcohol to taste
1 can condensed milk
10fl oz single cream
1 mug whisky/whiskey
8-10 teaspoons Camp coffee
mix and drink!
Whisky and Camp coffee are to taste, single cream is a must otherwise it thickens when you whisk
For the record, it doesn't freeze into ice cream, I think it's because of the alcohol content - guess who triedAiming for a Champagne Lifestyle on a Lemonade Budget

Lidl's (or is it Aldi? I get confused but I'm sure it's Lidl
) OB one is the best I have found, especially if you are going to add it to something else. It's called Queen Margot and it's £4.49 a bottle (although I haven't bought any for a bit)

Have you tried Morrisons they have 2 different types...
White Satin which is white choc style, and then another which I think is called Country Satin which is more like Baileys...My OH buys these at Christmas for his coffee...both about a fiver

This recipe is similar to dND's above ...ISLE OF ISLAY CREAM"Winemaker" Magazine, p.129, March 1982
14 fl. oz. (400 g) tin of condensed milk
8 fl. oz. of Scotch whisky
7 fl. oz. (250 ml) carton of UHT long-life single cream
6 fl. oz. (170 g) tin of evaporated milk (eg. "Ideal")
6 - 8 teaspoons of coffee essence (eg. "Camp")
(None of the amounts are critical, and the sizes of the tins and cartons have changed and/or been metricated since the recipe was originally published.)
METHOD
Pour all the ingredients into a 2 pint (1 litre) jug or bowl. Use the whisky to wash out all of the thicker ingredients from their containers. Mix. Pour. Drink.

Another vote for Tesco Irish Meadow, i prefer it to baileys and it's not as alcoholic so you can drink more!!0 -
Baileys is whisky based, most cheapies are wine based, both are alcoholic cream liquers. If you are doing a choclate mousse you will get a an alcoholic creamy flavour but not the whisky kick - I hate whisky and so have been know to use a cheapie as an ingredient. Depends on if you have wshisky in house which you can add or if you are bothered about the whisky kick!
enjoy in any event.0
