New baby - need free gift ideas pls help

Hi,

A very good friend of mine has just had a little baby girl (5lb 12oz called Beth) :j :j

I am absolutely skinter than skint  and wd like to make/bake something lovely to send her (am going to make card in a min).

Does any1 have any babified gift ideas that would be suitable. I've had a quick look (am at work) on freebies board but can only find things to apply for that would take time to come through and I want to get the parcel posted off tomorrow.

Luv Jxx

  • I neat idea is a package of 'media' from the day of her birth like a national newspaper from the day, a weekly magazine, a local newspaper etc and all presented neatly rolled and ribboned.
Mum can add to this every year on her birthday, we did this with our kids
If I screw my eyes up tight I can just about see where you're coming from

Given that she is probably going to be tired and worn out, and not have much energy...

How about a gingerbread cake or a fruit cake...they would post ok if protected? (could put on a sheet of cardboard covered in silver foil/clingfilm, then wrap in foil, then bubble wrap or put in a box?)

I would really appreciate something like that...

I know what i realy apreciated when i had a newborn baby was people who brought over a homecooked casserole or meal for us as i had no help at home and a hungry husband to feed, this was much better than the usual cake which was nice but not very usefull! the idea of a media 'package from her day of birth is lovely too, j

When I had my little boy my friend made me a keepsake box up with a newspaper & a cd which was no1 in the charts when he was born, a scrap book for me to add pics etc, she also done me a gift bag that was full with all free samples from washing powder to baby wipes which also come in very handy
I thought this was a real thoughtful gift, and I have since added to the box with all differant types of things for him to look at when he is older and it is also something I go and regulary look through as it brings back happy memories
I also had loads of baby clothes bought for him when he was born and he didnt get to wear most of them as he grew so fast. So in my opinion the keepsake box was by far the best gift he had.
It isnt about money that is spent it is the time and effort that goes into it.
Good luck and I am sure your friend will love anything that you give

    You could make some vouchers:

    cook a meal
    hoover her house
    clean the kitchen/bathroom
bake some cakes/muffins/biccys for visitors coming round
    do the laundry
    do her grocery shopping

    etc.

I'm sure all would be very much appreciated so she can spend more time with baby.
Here I go again on my own....

How about making some babysitting vouchers, which can be redeemed when your friend feels ready to get up and out again. They could even be for a Saturday afternoon when you will tend to the baby just so she could have a long soak in the bath without having to worry if DD cries - I would have LOVED that!

My baby (8 weeks old) loves two things - mirrors and black, red and white pictures.

I made a really simple black, red and white cot picture for her by drawing a simple picture on paper. Look on google images for 'cartoon cat' or 'smily face' to get a template to copy. To make it more special, maybe paint it on some wood (make sure corners are smoothed off) or do it on nice card with some clear sticky backed plastic on it.

If you are any good at sewing, you could make a fabric picture. Also, you could get a cheap or spare mirror and make a fabric surround for it, with a velcro fastening on the back to fit it onto cot bars.

Any black and white wool around?

I agree babies love black and white things...would be easy to make a black and white sock puppet...y'know, a rectanlge sewn up and over, with two red eyes and lips sewn on very securely.

You could knit it in a night and it would be cheap to post.

Enclose a card explaining you wanted something original and hand made and found out newborns loved this...:D

If you have to pop it in the post I assume you're too far away to go round and do some ironing for her.
