Hi there, I know what the charge would be for elctron visa in Australia:
2.75% per purchase and 4.75% per cash withdrawal
But with traveller's cheques I don't know.
All I know is that I can get them commision free in either sterling or Aussie dollars, but what would the commision be? And I hear that in remoter places they won't be accepted, and that cheques in the country's currency gets rejected as then they cannot make any more money on it!! (due to crappier exchange rates!)
Has anyone any info on this? I would particurlary like to know the commision rate on the other end.
I'm also a bit short of time on this, as I go Saturday!

If you don't have other options you can try AMERICAN EXPRESS TRAVELLERS CHEQUE CARD . Although I don't like it (see American Express travel card thread), I've heard that Thomas Cook offer some deal: Amex Travellers Cheque Card thread ...0

Cheers Grumbler- I did see this card lurking around in my searches, and naturally assumed that there would be additional costs. For all the faffing about to get it sorted I think that I will stick with me Electron visa.
I'll just try not to too much out via the cashpoint and try to get cashback instead!0 -

I am just back from a family holiday in Disneyland Paris and when we went to the travel agents to get some Euros they told us about the card and ASSURED us that it would work in Disnleyland Paris. Turned out only a few shops and luckilly our hotel accepted it, everytime we tried to use it at a ATM it got ejected.
I have phoned to complain to them a few times but STILL waiting a call bakc.
I would STRONGLY recommend you NOT to get this card0 -
That's very bad! I hope you get some joy on your complaint.
I certainly won't be getting one, but that info should help others that are thinking of using it. No one wants to go on holiday and be stuck without cash!!0
