Help! New patio door needed. What's a good price?

Options
Hi, I hope someone can help me please.

I'm in mid-decoration and I have to fit a replacement, 2 pane, patio door, size approx 1900mm wide x 2010mm height, in a hurry. What might I expect a medium size company to quote to make and install? I would want a decent warranty.

I can't stand the 4 hour sell and the patronising approach of some salesmen and need to know what I could reasonably expect to pay if I have to haggle (hate doing this).

Thanks for any advice.

If it is a standard size it will be a lot cheaper to get if from wickes etc and get someone to fit it for you.

Otherwise, go to a good local company and expect to pay around £800 for supply and fit. Insist on internally glazed, where the beading that holds the glass in is on the inside, so it cannot be removed from the outside.

Thanks for that. I was quoted £1980 from fairly large local company yesterday, which I thought was way too steep despite all the usual assurances of quality, warranty etc. Plus it would take a month before it could be fitted. Guess I'll have to get a few more quotes.

If you go down the DIY store route, you may find Screwfix are a good place to look. I would personally avoid Wickes DG.

    We.ve just been quoted £3500 for 4panel - centre 2 sections slide - 5mts wide & second door similar to what you want & 2 windows 1200x600.

We do have to make the openings ourselves, but they supply & fit.

    Havn't placed the order yet.

    a second quote was £4300

    Both local established companies.

Got Anglian coming to quote on Monday

Do yourself a favour vansboy and cancel that Anglian appointment first thing, save yourself a few hours and some grey hairs, their deffo going to be at least £6k.
The £3.5k quote is not bad for a 5 section + 2 section patio along with 2 windows.

Sulumar your looking at £900 tops inc Vat, fitting and 10 year guarantee, if you do pay less make sure you see a sample product to check your happy with it.

The Anglian guy came, didn't do a full sales pitch, as the house is like a demolition site. He did give an estimate of £4350, so not far off from one the local firms. Told him we'd need a MUCH better figure, once our surveyor had confirmed the actual door opening size.

Spoke to them today & just signed the order - £3500 - so same as lowest local quote, but with a what might end up being a superior quality product, as neither the locals were able to provide much in the way of technical information, on their windows!

Also got an earlier projected installeation date & used the 4% Capital One cashback card to pay deposit!

Just hope they fit as well as they look!

Just looked at all your website - I think the doors are great. Make sure you post the 'after' pictures of your house when you are finished. I'm sure it will be fab. Do you mind me asking where the bathroom is from on your 'wishlist'?

    Good luck!

    Hi Pink!

Glad you like what we're doing to the place - it looks better slightly now, 'cos we've actually got some internal walls up!!

The bathrooms are all from B&Q.

The shower cubicle with the glas shelves, is Homebase, but B&Q & Focus all do similar.

The inset flat panel shower is the smaller Atlas from Bathstore. Doozergirl has the bigger version, I think.

Will be updating the site again, after Mrs V takes more pics of this weeks efforts!
