Anyone else come across this Amex Travellers Cheque Card promo.

My mum's gonna be over in the States for a while and was thinking this might be good for her. In particular, the free $250 given if you deposit $2000.

    I can't see any catch as such, except the exchange rate for £Sterling is very poor - about 8 or 9 cents below the commercial rate - plus a £15 transaction fee plus a fee(doesn't say how much) for drawing your money from an ATM.

    If you got $250 added for $2000 it would be a good deal - but without that it is a disaster. A debit card is a far better proposition - especially a Nationwide card. Even a credit card is better.

    have just come back from florida used the above card was impressed everywhere took it only snag $2.50 to draw cash from atm +atm fee but i just used mine as a credit card ell mum go for it i onl changed $700 and got 50 free
