I make it about 8500 miles as the crow flies, east to the shores of australia & about 9200 miles if you fly west to new zealand?????

Anyone else care to add a thought? :j

Well, Wikipedia says they are officially affiliated with New Zealand (formerly owned by, but now independent of), so I would ASSUME this is the best answer. Also, looking at the map makes them look closer to the far northern tip of NZ than to Australia's east coast.

I was hedging my bets on New zealand as well, just did not want this to be a sort of trick question? Thats the nice thing about comping together, if your unsure its nice to get a 2nd opinion!

( Mind you offically owned or formerly owned by!!.. can I just point out the falkland islands!

Australia is so close that I will be investigating this further before entering. The relationship with New Zealand is not necessarily relevant, and maps can be deceptive.
