One of the funniest shows of the year” New York Times.
Arts Theatre 25 Jun – 28 Sep
Forget everything you think you know about ventriloquism. Shut it neatly away in a box along with that incontinent green bird with ideas above his station and that mangy Scotty dog that used to spit a lot. Because throwing your voice has come of age in the new West End show The Two and Only.
Yes, there is one main man - Jay Johnson. Yes, there are a number of puppets - ranging from a 1970s child TV star to a talking tennis ball. But unlike the acts of yesteryear, this performance isn't cute, sweet and - by today's standards - tired. Instead, it's over 90 minutes of expert comic timing, undeniable skill and enjoyable darkness. Even the show's strap line is clever: 'It's about finding your voice. And throwing it.' - which Jay first did at just 11.
In fact, if you've ever wondered what possesses a young boy to make life-long friends with inanimate objects, this is the show for you.
Jay takes the audience on a fascinating journey along the ventriloquism timeline and, simultaneously, back through his own past coping with life’s challenges in a very unique way.
The Tony award-winning show has gone down a storm in New York and looks set to do the same here in London. So, why not treat the side of you that appreciates great comic writing - as well as the part of you that still secretly wishes it could escape through the wardrobe or befriend a wookee - and book a ticket today.
