Newark Airport To Manhatten

Travelling to NEWARK with teenage daughter in October, no transport offered by our hotel. Is it better and easier just to pay a bit more and get a taxi door to door ? What might this cost? Been before and done usual sights .Any interesting ideas of unusual things to do / places to go.

  • We got the bus to the Port Authority (bus station) although we had to wait a bit longer. Last time we flew into JFK and got a mini-bus taxi which goes round a few hotels - yours is almost always last it only cost about £12 each - I thought is was better than the bus and I'm sure Newark would have this facility as well.

Check out tripadvisor as they always have loads of helpful hints.

I totally love NY, wish it was me going again. Have a brilliant time:beer:

    hi,
take the new jersey transportation train from newark to grand central station and get a taxi from there. don't bother with taxi's- expensive and traffic murder, especially through lincoln tunnel. remember the ny taxi driver image off tv? flat cap, small cigar 'where yo wanna go'? he doesn't exist any more. all drivers asian/african and most have limited grasp of local geog. most cabs unbelievably filthy. don't be fooled by official yellow and licence plate - could still be illegal. I use them for short journeys and then only if I have to. use the subway (daytime only) while you're there.
NYC represents the best/worst of western capitalist society. dynamic, dirty, safeish since the early 90's when mayor rudi intro'd the zero tolerance policy and cleared the streets of human detritus, stunning views (esp. from the staten island ferry, which is free), over-consumptive, dollar-worshipping, in-yer-face awe-inspiring, immediately recognisable, wonderful............NYC.
one way or the other, nyc will leave an impression on you.
spend at least a morning wandering chinatown. locals can be born here, grow up, live and die without ever learning english. The supermarkets are, er...............interesting.
hope this is of some help.
    A pleasant trip.

    regards

I would take the train from Newark (about $14 one way, price from last November) and takes 30 minutes to Penn Station, then walk / taxi to hotel.

You can stay covered from outside from where you pick up your luggage, through customs, easy directions to train station, can buy ticket at booth or feed money into machine. Trains every 15-30 mins.

Easy as pie. All the times I have been to NYC, I got a taxi once (very expensive) and never again. You have been before, so know how the city works with traffic etc.

    Train train train !!!
