Interest rates up on both Gold and Classic cards by 2% and a charge for all credit/debit card transactions outside Europe

I started with nothing and I am proud to say I still have most of it left.

I always loved this card as there was no extra charges when I go on my holidays, I read the article and it confused me about currency conversion and currency handling fees, I alwasy thought only one was charged by all cards.May 2009 Debt-Free Wannabe

Anyone who uses a Nationwide debit or credit card outside Europe will also be charged a currency conversion fee imposed by Visa, which was previously absorbed by the building society. This will be £4.20 for every £500 spent.
Doesn't seem like a massive amount to me, and therefore quite fair.

Quite depressing really. It's still one of the best cards for abroad. I wonder if this also applies to their debit card? Not to chuffed that they are paying 1% on cash ISA's. Hardly worth having any savings in the bank these days.:mad:0

It may be worth you checking out the Post Office Credit Card (backed by Bank Of Ireland) which doesn't charge a fee for foreign transactions.

Oh well, my Nationwide debit card has served me well on a couple of foreign trips and it looks like the charges won't be introduced until after my next jaunt.:D
Even with the charges it should still be better than almost everyone else?
Edit: Missed the only outside Europe bit so that's good. I'm just looking through the country list on the Nationwide site. Had anyone heard of Kerguelen before?!0 -
