Hi, Hope that this is in the correct place. My 10 yr. old son has got a cheap tesco mp3 player and he is eager to download some music onto it. Can anyone recommend any safe, legal, free sites? We've tried googling 'free music downloads' but we couldn't get the sites we came up with to download, possible due to the security we have on the computer, so we wondered if anyone could recommend other sites that we may have more luck with. Thanks in advance. ktj.

Now unless you want unknown bands the words free and legal do not go together very often when it comes to music. If you want truly legal then paying for the tracks is the "safe" way.

www.play.com offer tracks at only 65p if you want legal and cheap

or if you want free like what PaulK said then you will have to go down the torrent route......free and illegal.....depends what your morals are like

    mine are sadly low
If you find yourself in a fair fight, then you have failed to plan properly

Telegraph.co.uk are offering 50 free downloads. Check the terms & conditions, it states you need a credit or debit card to register - www.emusic.com/telegraphdownload
  • Free and legal downloads available at https://www.jamendo.com

Fair enough, they are bands that you might never have heard of but that doesn't mean that all the music is rubbish.

Give it a try, he might find something he likes.

Try we7.com. There's a lot of stuff they don't have, but some of the tracks are by very well-known artists. All free and legal, too!

Thanks to all. Looks like we're going to have to pay. So which sites offer the cheapest downloads? Again thanks in advance. Ktj.
