System Restore destroyed my word files

Hi all,
I did something really dumb. I used system restore. I'd installed a font management prog, and it messed up my fonts, so I tried to undo the damage by using system restore.
Only problem is that its destroyed some important word2007 (docx) documents I've been working on.
Any ideas how I can get them back? I tried undoing restore, but that didn't fix the problem.
Where does system restore put renamed documents anyway?
Many thanks.
garcia.

I have tried almost all the data recovery programs out there to try and recover files completely messed up by Paragon Partition Manager. The only one that worked was GetDataBack. Not the cheapest out there but I was so amazed that I bought the whole recovery bundle for $120. You can try the software for free to see whether it could recover the files but you want be able to copy them back onto your HD unless you license the software.Do I want it? ......Do I need it? ......What would happen if I don't buy it??????0

One thing I forgot to mention is that you shouldn't install or change anything on the drive where the corrupted files are and if you are to try a file recovery program like GetDataBack then try and install it and run it from a different drive.Do I want it? ......Do I need it? ......What would happen if I don't buy it??????0

Thanks for all the help guys. It turns out it was a problem with word, rather than system restore. The full file was there - I just couldn't believe how small it was - that docx format is reallly compact. Also for some reason when I would open it, it would only display the first 10 pages. Anyway whatever the problem was its fixed now.
Moral of the story: Backup, backup, backup!
thanks again,
