Hi Guys!
I have invited my niece and her visiting american fiance round towards the end of the month. I am thinking of doing a buffet but want to do some american dishes too but need easy to make recipes.
I was thinking things such as:
Mac & Cheese (actually have 2 proper american packets from when mum was over there)
Cornbread (I need an easy recipe for this...anyone
)
Shake'n'bake style chicken (I think I have an american packet of this too to cover some chicken breasts)
Baked Potatoes & Sour cream
Corn On Cob
Salad
Blue Cheese salad dressing
Deep fried coted green beans
I dont really want to do burgers and fries etc and I think it would be difficult cooking steak for an american as USA is king of steaks and dont want to look stupid:rolleyes:
We have been to Florida a few times but thats all the same really with all you can eat buffets etc and all the food seems to be the same.
Can anyone think of any other easy american style recipes?
Thanks in advance.

Penny, I think that N9eav could be your man.
He often posts details of his American style feasts, not sure if he didn't live over there for a while, but think he does entertain American friends.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no: 203.0 -

Hi Pen-Pin
When I was over there on one of my work trips, one family kind invited us (8 of us) over for breakfast and served this, the "bulk sausage" is what we know as sausage meat.

I was going to do a typical English Buffet but with a few familar dishes for him as he's apparently a very fussy eater. Thanks for the recipes above-I couldnt find the american thread...sorry:o
Thanks to everyone else too.

Hi all,
Every few weeks we have friends over for tea. Usually have HM bolognaise, cottage pie, roast and veg, but next time they come (few weeks from now because we only saw them yesterday) we would like to have an American-style feast.
We were thinking of things like Southern Fried or Sticky Chicken and Potato Skins / Potato Wedges / Curly Fries. I've seen similar in ready meals sections of supermarkets but we want to make it at home - for both cost and knowing what's in it.
Does anyone have any recipes for this kind of thing and other suggestions for what we might have? For accompaniments I can only think of corn-on-the-cob, baked beans (spiced up in some way?) and coleslaw.
I'm new to all this cooking lark but I'm going to give it a bash!0 -
Hi elle_gee,
There was a very recent thread on exactly this sort of food that should help so I'll add your thread to it.
These threads may help too:
Southern Fried Chicken
Potato Wedges? - All you ever wanted to know about how make potato wedges
Loaded Potato Skins
Southern/Curly Fries Seasoning

Elle Gee - that meal sounds great! As an American I can tell you that we frequently have Italian foods (as often as Brits would have an Indian) so we love pizza, lasagne, and spaghetti with meatballs and sauce. However, we also love a grilled steak, maybe with a baked potato (bake as usual and then 'scoop' out the potato and mix in a bowl with soured cream, salt, pepper, chives, and bits of bacon if you have it and a small bit of milk. Then put back into the potato and serve with a side salad with thousand island or blue cheese dressing. You can serve the steak with a 'garlic butter' sauce melted on top. This is minced up garlic and butter melted together for a few seconds in the microwave.
Don't forget the dessert! Americans love chocolate mousse, chocolate cake, a warmed up giant brownie served with a large scoop of vanilla ice cream and chocolate sauce poured over the top of both.
gosh i'm getting hungry now...........
good luck!
