Tesco Internet Saver - 6.50%

Anyone know whether this new rate is now in force for all internet saver accounts or just for new ones?

    • INTERNET SAVER increased by 0.25% w.e.f. 2.10.08: £1 - 6.50%, £100K - 5.00%. Rate on balances up to £100K includes 1.50% bonus for 12 months for new customers only. All other terms and conditions remain unchanged. more
They've put up the basic rate. So the bonus rate is the same for 'current' and 'new' opened accounts as long as they are in the first 12 months - which most will be.

So we will all be getting 6.5%AER now as long as we are not over the 12 months bonus period.

Great! I do not have to move my money out for now. :j
    Vodafone sucks.

Thought I'd bring this thread back to life ask a question, rather than a new thread. Was thinking of setting up with Tesco as a new customer for this rate, which whilst has a bonus for 12 months, is a good competitive rate with easy access, which I want.

Has anyone signed up for this, what's the process like, what's the online system like (on a par with HSBC?). Read mixed reports on whether to bother or not!

I've not had any problems. Signing up process was fine - took about 2 weeks in all to receive everything necessary. Online system is simple but works ok. They have recently introduced a card reader system but seemed to foget to tell their customers about it. However that's been the only hitch and wasn't a big problem for me as I had already set up my payment details so didn't need the card reader. I now have one.

The best thing I like about it and why I went for it is that it uses the Faster Payment system both in and out.

I must have missed that - good news as I've had this Tesco account for a couple of months.

Ian-d, this account is good. The setting up process takes about as long as any other banks. Moving money about is easy. Uses the faster payments system, online security is good - you need a card reader which gives extra security. Only problem we had was the length of time it took to receive the card reader (about 36 days in all) but that may have been resolved now. Apart from that one problem we have nothing bad to say about it - you can add any number of payees.

At 6.5% I would recommend it and keep an eye on the date the bonus stops then move your money as we will do.

is the Tesco saver account protected by the FSA's FSCS? if you read the FAQs, the protection is only up to £31k and is not £35k, there's reference to Icelandic scheme???

Tesco Personal Finance Ltd is authorised by the FSA, number 186022, so is covered by the FSCS in the same way as other financial institutions for deposits up to £35,000, rising to £50,000 on Tuesday (allegedly)

I was a bit disappointed - thought I could transfer money to open it electronically, but I have to send a cheque when I receive the paperwork (which I haven't after 5 days)
