cheap (er) BT broadband

If you have broadband from Bt, if you call them and ask for a new rate - they will reluctantly give you option 1 for 18 months at GBP15.99 with the first 3 months at GBP7.99 if you sign for 18 months. If you want 12 months they wont offer you the first 3 months at 7.99

Tell them thanks but I will switch to talk talk (others may work as well) then they will put you thru to retention team who will give you 12 months for 12.99 - (still more than talk talk - but less hassle than changing - and cheaper than doing nothing !)

Lol. I couldn't wait to get away from Virgin. Thankfully I went right onto BeThere (O2) and it is blissful :)
  • Watch Virgin T&Cs if you are moving or upgrading.
    Can be very costly.

Shortly after taking Ukonline 2 meg service i found i wasnt even getting 1meg ( speed test) so i asked Ukonline if that was grounds for breaking the contact, Ukonline pointed out that the service was "up to 2 meg" and that speeds depended on various factors like distance from exchange etc.

I said true but before i took your service i clicked a box so that Ukonline could test to see if 2 meg service was available in my area.

Ukonline then offered to reduce my payments to 9.99 whilst retaining the up to 2meg service, im now getting close to 2meg and till paying 9.99 a month. :j

I have worked for bt for many years and had my broadband with them as it is free to staff however service was very poor - after many attempts to resolve me problems (it was off more than it was on) and 2 hubs and 3 routers later (just to add i worked on bt broadband tech help!) I had virgin installed I am paying £17.99 a month but have just received a letter stating it is increasing to £25. amonth, also a few weeks ago I received a letter stating that everyone was being upgraded to 10mb so I don' know what package i'm on - has anyone else had this?

If its being upgraded to 10mb then you will be on the L package, the standard price for which has always been £25 per month so you must have had a promotional price before this. The M package at 2mb is £18 per month.

thanks for that helix - will give them a call, don't remember the 17.99 promotional but no doubt they will say they told me it was
  • BT actually rang me today to offer me the £15.99 tariff but because I had read your post, Oilit, I asked what else they could do for me as I was thinking of switching. They put me through to the retention department who offered me the £12.99 deal so thank you very much for saving me some money!

I have 15 months of an 18 month contract left with BT. Am I correct in assuming I am stuck with what I have or can I change tariff etc?

Does anyone know, or has tried to get a reduction on BT Total Broadband Option 2? I have this and get a good service but the monthly payments seem high in comparison to other providers. I'd like to think I could get a better deal with just a phone call, as opposed to all the hassle of changing providers. Also what is the contact telephone number? Thanks
