19 year old Son applying for credit card

Can some one help out with this one my son of 19 is receiving a RBS credit card soon £1400 LIMIT if he was to fall behind or default, could my credit rating be affected, we share the same name and address, 27 years differance I am afraid. :confused:

    It could do if you are associated on your credit reports, have you had a look?

  • dont really know if he would young chap first credit card, he is a graffter (worker) have not checked to see if he is assicated with my self how would I do that,:j
  • IIRC you're not associated unless you have a joint debt.
    If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything

    If he defaulted you would only be affected if you were linked with him financially ie joint bank account, joint mortgage etc.

    It used to be the case that the address was blacklisted, but fortunately that isn't the case anymore.

    Best thing to do is to teach him the pitfalls of late payments etc, and not to get into that mess in the first place. He sounds like a sensible chap tho :)

    Any advice or thoughts I give on matters involving debt and recovery processes should be considered as nothing more than the opinion of someone who used to be a bailiff a long time ago.

    Don't worry. I got a Barclaycard with £100 credit limit just a week after my 18th birthday. That was a long time ago!

    It seemed pretty normal in those days especially among students.
