Argos - will they accept a return for exchange without a receipt?

Options
Hope this is the right place for this, but Our son got two items for christmas that were the same (Nikko Vaporizr RC car), one from us and one from a grandparent.

Unfortunately, neither if us have the receipt, and they were bought with cash, not credit/debit cards.

However, each item was bought from Argos, as each box has an Argos catalogue number sticker on it.

Question is, would Argos give an exchange (don't want a refund, just to swap for something else) on one of these items, without receipt/proof of purchase, even though the box is unopened and has their catalogue number sticker on it?

Failing that, we'll just have to try and sell one on eBay/Gumtree.

Cheers for any advice offered.

the store wouldn't do it without proof of the date item was purchased there is usually a picking sticker stuck to the box of every item bought in store have you not got this either? as that usually has a date on

Nah, no picking slip/sticker on either... like I say, just the one with the catalogue number.

Never mind, knew it was a long shot. Will just have to put one of them on eBay/Gumtree, so we can get something for it so we can get an alternative gift for our son.

It can be returned. I work for argos, and we will exchange or refund to the lowest value it was sold for as you have no proof of what was paid.
