Shops open New Years Day?

Not sure where to post this so apologies if its in the wrong place...was just wondering, do many stores open on New Years Day in larger towns?...only live in a small town where hardly anything opens...

Majority of places will be. Its 2007, the only day off people get in retail is christmas day.
I shall be working new years day in debenhams, but 11-3 so i get a lie in and dont have to feel rubbish at work for long!0 -
I know our main shopping centre is closed new years day, but the retail park over the road is open and the shops in the high street are open.finally debt free and want to keep it that way!!0

I couldn't believe my eyes before, nipped into Somerfields for a few bits and on the door is said open new years eve 8am till 8pm and open new years day from 9-5:eek: , glad i dont work thereSam B0

I do know that sainsbuys are open tommorow, but not M&S.0

Sainsbury's are open tomorrow down in Berks, but not Asda, Tesco or Lidl.0
