Ebico/SSE replacement?

I have been with Ebico/SSE for a while now with their Equi-Gas/Power plan that has no standing charge. I have pre-pay prepay meters. That is coming to an end and I will be moved to SSE where there is standing charge. A very rough estimate tells me that I will be paying about £200 standing charge per year for gas/electric. But if I compare their gas/electric with Ebico Zero (Ebico/RHE?) they are cheaper by only about £70 per year for both fuels. So SSE is £70 cheaper for the fuel but adds £200 with the standing charge. Moving to Ebico would save me roughly £130 a year. But Ebico Zero is not on prepay meters...

What is the best course of action for me? I live alone and spend very little of gas or electric and that ticking standing charge is a big added expense. Can I ask SSE to fit normal meters and then move to Ebico? :) Or move to Ebico Pre-Pay and ask them to change the meters and then change the plan to Zero?

Are there any alternatives?

All advice is welcome!

I did nothing and was sent a new welcome pack advising me that my energy supplier was no longer SSE, and now Robin Hood. My switch-over took place on the 26 July. If you heard nothing you should contact Ebico customer service on 0800 028 669. They will soon sort things out.

As far as meters are concerned I'd ask Ebico whether to to switch to having a digital credit meter installed as long as you're sure you've done your homework properly on your kwh usage pa. Don't forget Economy 7 (expensive day tariff, cheap overnight one) uses a different credit meter so you'd need to consider whether most of your electrical usage is in the wee small hours or otherwise before deciding. There's a lot more arithmetic involved than first appears.

As an alternative to Ebico/RHE, for me electricity only in the Eastern Region and 1188 kWh p.a. the Green Energy variable tariff is cheaper than my existing Scottish Power by £31.59p p.a. What's significant is that the standing charge on this tariff is nil.

    for me:
    Per kWh: 16.355p
    Standing Charge: 0.00p per day

Might be worth checking out their prices for pre-pay.

But for those in the Eastern region who qualify for Warm Home Discount Scottish Power fixed August 2018 is still the cheapest of the suppliers which offer WHD.

According to the Good Energy website they do have a standing charge for all areas, which varies from 24p to nearly 30p a day, depending on where you live.

    See https://www.goodenergy.co.uk/media/11548/2017-tariffs-standard-meters.pdf

The unit rates are also higher than a lot of other suppliers.

Maybe you should read my post again.

    Green Energy "TAP" tariff:
    Electricity
    Daily Fixed Charge 0.00p
    Per unit/kWh 17.42p

The above is for the Eastern Region with no annual consumption entered. Enter your postcode for your quick quote

See that you have edited your previous post to take out the reference to "Good Energy".

I don't understand your objection. In my original post in this thread I very clearly stated "Green Energy" and made a reference to the type of energy they supply. I was not aware that "Good Energy" was an energy company and therefore I removed that reference in my post to prevent misunderstanding. I very clearly included that explanation if the reason for editing notes in that post and then advised you to read the post again. I don't see anything wrong with that.

In any case Green Energy's standing charge is nil when I last looked as I stated in my original post in this thread and your reply to that post is at least mistaken!

I'm not sure they support PPM customers, do they?

Not coming up on a comparison site for me (assuming I had PPMs), nor can I see how you apply via their website if you have a PPM.
