My son does a bit of running and I am looking to buy him an MP3 player for Christmas which he can use when out doing long runs. It will be used mostly to transfer music from cds. I would also like it to have a radio but not interested in camera, video etc.
Can anyone recommend a decent player at a reasonable price.

eBay have a hair-raising range of choices - I'd offer to put up the first tenner or however much & then let him choose.
There's also the little issue of where he's running & how much situational awareness is advisable - some areas do not repay running with 2 headphones in.
Finally, most phones can manage music (& some a radio app) - and if anything did go wrong (bad fall etc) a phone might be more use, so maybe suggest a case to run with?0 -
All he need is a decent bluetooth earphone/ headphone. Mobile phone can play mp3.
I cant't imagine he want a mp3 player with cable of earphone hanging around when running.
Or it could be headphone with built in mp3.0 -
Sansa clip Jam- has a nice clip so that you can attach it to clothing. It's simple and works well, decent price.0

That was my thinking as well, simple little players but do the job well.

The only problem with it is that it doesn't play (some) m4a files properly.
This might be an issue with iTunes files.
But if the user wants it for mainly CD rips then mp3 is fine.
And most podcasts use mp3 too.
Also my Clip Jam seems to handle ogg and flac files OK.
It has a radio.
I don't use this function, but I've just tried it and it works.
The earbuds act as an aerial.
It has a socket to take a micro SD card to add more storage.
I haven't had much success with this because it is very picky about which type/speed SD card is used.
Not the cheapie ones that I buy from eBay.;)
But the 8GB internal memory is adequate for my needs.:)Never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake.0 -
Thanks. I think I will go for the Sansa Clip Jam as recommended. Thank you all for your helpVal0

I am a regular runner who likes music on the go !
I use an old mobile phone with a memory card, stuck a 3 PAYG sim card in it and a pair of bluetooth ear buds that I got from Amazon.
Memory card about a £5 from ebay, sim card cost £10 to top up (brilliant if someone needs to get hold of me OR I need help) and the ear buds were about £13 https://www.amazon.co.uk/Bluetooth-Headphones-Mpow-Hands-free-Cancellation/dp/B00OK5BELU/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1480326624&sr=8-2&keywords=mpow+wireless+bluetooth
All in all under £30 and covers all bases !Thanks to MSE I cleared £37k of debt in five years and I was lucky enough to meet Martin to thank him personally.0
