Norther Parking Services Parking Charge Notice

Hi there
I received a Parking Charge Notice from Northern Parking Services on Sunday 19 June at 20:19 where I had parked for approximately one hour in a car park in Middlesbrough. Thinking it was late on Sunday evening, I naively thought that I wouldn't have to pay to park and didn't really check the signs.
The original notice was £60, which I ignored after thinking it was a private company and not the council so may not be able to enforce the charge. I now have a letter to state that as I have not paid within 14 days the amount has gone up to £100. I suspect that Northern Parking Services are a member of one of the groups that can get your details from the DVLA.
My query is whether I should pay the charge and if so should I pay the full £100 or could I pay the original £60. My concern if I don't pay is that if it does go to court I will have to pay the fine and additional costs. Any advice on whether Northern can enforce this or any people with past experiences with this company would be greatly appreciated. I have read previous threads on here but would like a comment on my own situation.
Many thanks for your help
Jodie

Have you read the newbies faq thread near the top of the forum before starting this thread?
No one here will advise you to pay.0 -
No-one here will tell you to pay a penny. See this from the BMPA:
http://www.bmpa.eu/companydata/Northern_Parking_Services_North_East.html
BMPA: ''Our recommendation for this operator: Ignore but keep paperwork''
This is because they are IPC members and there is no appeal worth trying because it all considered a sham, a kangaroo court (allegedly). However as you can see from that link, they've almost never sued anyone and rely on victims thinking they 'have' to pay any parking ticket.
Have you read the sticky thread here 'NEWBIES PLEASE READ THESE FAQS FIRST'? Please do, and be ready for the daft debt collector letters and demands using a splash of RED ink! Hilarious when you know it's all rubbish. They cannot affect your credit rating unless you ignore court papers which is as rare as hen's teeth from this little firm of money-grabbers.
Finally, if you ignore everything we say, reckon you owe them £60 then you either have more money than sense (sorry) or you are joining them and funding the scam against the next family or little old lady who also thinks they have to pay...and so the entire rip-off goes on.
These are not local authority PCNs. DO NOT phone them up, this is not a fair/normal industry, believe us. They want to know who was driving. DO NOT tell them.
You could send the single challenge suggested in the NEWBIES thread, then sit tight.
I should add the caveat not to ignore every private PCN, because some do sue (e.g. ParkingEye) and plenty of them are so easy to appeal and cancel that it's laughable. So always look them up on the BMPA website or ask on here about each firm.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

Unfortunately you are not alone with your naivety, we get statements like this every day of the week, and you are the type of person these scum prey on, you are now in the victim loop and will have to go the course as advised, or pay up, not advised.
Many years ago when I was an apprentice, they had a large sign in the office, "If in doubt ask, never assume anything", that piece of advice has stayed with me always, and has never been more relevent!0
