    Hotels.com = Cashback via Quidco/TCB between 8-12% + free night for every 10.

Works best for Europe, Middle East and US I have found.

Asiarooms.com is the far east equivalent and whilst you don't get cashback they offer some stunning deals by default.

Just FYI, Asiarooms.com has been closed down by its owner, TUI Group. It now redirects to Laterooms.com.

Accor "Happy Mondays" where you book Mon or Tues for the following weekend for as little as £25
We have stayed several Saturday nights in IBIS Edinburgh South Bridge for £25 (including breakfast btw)

I always book through Expedia but make sure it is always done through Quidco as that saves between 5 to 12% off the price of the hotel.

Surely all of this info is already on this forum ?

Frankly there's no one answer - time of year and destination make a massive difference to which methods work best.

On a road trip around the USA 10 years ago, we just rocked up at hotels/motels and haggled a price.
Yup that always works well in the US if you're not travelling at peak times - in most towns there are loads of motels so loads of competition. Works particularly well in Florida as there's masses of accomodation which is half empty at off peak times.

We have recently found a website called Roomer Travel they claim to sell rooms that people have booked and can't cancel we booked 9 nights in Orlando at a resort that was £1500 on Expedia on roomer it was £522 plus about $100 when we get there. I booked on cc to ensure it was safe and called the property to check we were there and we are, following this I used them to book a night at the airport about 20% cheaper than I could get elsewhere, they were not as cheap as low cost holidays for the beach bit though

This is great also you pick up those free papers with the coupons in them though they do give you the worst rooms when you use these even when empty we had a room that had a dumpster blocking the window in Palm Springs when we asked to be moved we were told that was the coupon room

Check the cashback rates at different sites. Recently, Quidco have been giving better cashback for Hotels.com than Top Cashback.

Quidco have been offering better cashback if you use the smartphone app instead of the normal web page.

I recently was looking for a two night stay, Wednesday and Thursday nights, at a Doubletree in Central London. I got one night free through Hilton Hhonors points, and the second night free using Hotels.com reward nights. The Hilton redemption price was the same for either night, but the Hotels.com redemption price was cheaper on the Thursday, so it was worth checking prices for both nights. The Hotels.com reward night was only applicable on B&B rates, not room only.

In early December last year, I had 7/10ths of a reward night with Hotels.com, and was about to lose it as I had not used my account for nearly a year. I booked the cheapest provincial hotel I could find for £30 (with £3.60 cash back) to avoid losing my reward points, which were worth about £175. (I didn’t stay at the hotel.)

Hotels.com and Expedia usually charge the same rate and offer the same cashback (they are the same company) but Hotels.com give the additional loyalty bonus.

If you are planning a holiday in advance, lock into an early booking rate which you can cancel, then monitor price changes. In May 2013, I booked a 6 night stay in New York in September for £1617 with Hotelclub.com. In July, I found the same hotel £200 cheaper with Hotels.com. I was able to cancel the first booking and make a saving.

For hotels in the US and Canada, one way to get a discount is to use the AAA rate. If you are AA member in the UK, you are entitled to AAA rates in the US. I bought the cheapest possible AA membership for £30 with £20 cashback to get AAA rates.

Hilton are almost always cheaper using a booking agency than booking direct, but you won’t earn loyalty points with an agency booking.

I either usually use my wife NHS ID or ask certain hotel chains for their corporate rate and tell them I work for certain companies. Which works particularly well for Hilton, Holiday In, IHG and Marriott chains.

Please can I ask I have holidays booked for much later in the year and I usually stay the previous night locally either at Premier Inn or in the local Ibis Budget - Etap as was.

I was wondering if I should book the full rate room now but then monitor for when and if the price falls to the level I really want to pay.
I know the full rate you can cancel for a refund - not sure how close to the date
I use 2 emails so I can book and cancel with one and rebook with another if need be.

    Does anyone do this?
