peppercorns soud an excellant idea if only I had an asian supermarket near to me. I will have a shufti next time I go to my sis-in-laws as Macknades Farm Shop at Faversham may sell them, they sell all sorts of wonderful stuff and I always spent bundles in there.I could spend all day just walking round smelling things in there. Its like Harrods food hall (along with the prices :):):))
Nice quiet day watching tv and knitting and generally just slothing out.Weather is really nasty and wet so I'm pleased I didn't have to go out at all

I was wondering if there is one in chatham? There is one in Canterbury, have pm'd you.

    I love macknades too!

    Morning all

There's an Asian supermarket about 15 mins walk away from me which I have never been too but am thinking I might go a wander there to see what they have. Me and OH eat a lot of rice/noodle meals so it would be interesting to compare the prices to the usual supermarkets.

Yesterday I went to the local market and bought eggs and veg. It's a wee bit more expensive than the supermarket but I prefer to buy from there when I can knowing that it all comes from a farm about 15 miles away. I also bought some daffodils to brighten up the flat in this horrible weather.

    Morning All,

I'm up shamefully late today but can't think why because the only really energetic thing I did yesterday was baking with the children; still, not to worry, there's no one with a big stick here - so why do I feel vaguely guilty? I suppose it's inculcated from childhood that you don't laze around in bed.

Lynn, many thanks for the recipe - I was trying to think of something to do with my leftover leeks and parsnips and hey presto, like a fairy godmother you produce a recipe for them.

Here's a nice sinful recipe for the warmer weather (when it gets here).

No Bake Berry Cheesecake serves 8

Topping: 8 digestive biscuits, 6 tbsp. caster sugar, 100 grams unsalted butter.
Berries: 300grams blueberries or blackberries, 2 tbsp. caster sugar, splash of crème de cassis or water.
Vanilla Cream Cheese: 400 grams cream cheese, 6 tbsp. icing sugar, juice of half a lemon, split vanilla pod, 600ml double cream. Icing sugar to dust.

For the Topping: Coarsely grind the biscuits in a food processor. Melt the sugar in a heavy based non-stick pan until it begins to caramelise, then carefully add the butter, shaking the pan to mix the caramel with the butter as it melts. Add the crushed biscuits and toss to coat in the caramel. Tip onto a plate, chill for 5 minutes until firm, then break into pieces. Wipe out the pan with kitchen paper.

Tip the blueberries into the pan and sprinkle with the 2 tbsp. sugar and a splash of cassis or water. Cook over a medium- high heat for a minute until the blueberries are slightly soft. Spread out on a plate and leave to cool.

For the vanilla cream cheese, put the cream cheese, icing sugar and lemon juice in a large bowl. Add the seeds from the vanilla pod and beat until smooth. In another bowl, lightly whip the cream to soft peaks, then fold into the cream cheese mixture.

To shape the individual cheesecakes, line 8 ramekins with cling film. Fill with the cream cheese mixture and level the tops with the back of a knife. Chill until ready to serve.

Turn out the cheesecakes onto serving plates and remove the cling film. Scatter the topping over and spoon the blueberries round the plate. Dust with icing sugar and serve immediately. And enjoy!!

Just a quick observation about finding ingredients- it is possible to get most things wherever you live - you just have to hunt around for them a little more and ask. Small businesses, I find, want to serve their customers and are not necessarily more expensive. Just keep looking and asking wherever you go. 'Exotic' ingredients tend, on the whole, to be things that you use occasionally and they generally last.

    Have a good day, Everyone.

Viv you brought back memories I work in Stamford for 3 weeks back in the 70's and the company took me to the George every day for lunch 2 courses I think and yes it was yummy back then glad to hear it still is.
I too am a fairy girl, I put it into an old used handgel container and I then get a premeasured amount out.
Gosh so many of us have the same trail of thought re writing on items when we start them.
DH is back home and on the mend, working and going to the hospital was hard going, to get my hours in I was starting work at 7.30am then when I'd finished it was straight to the hospital and catching the 8.50pm bus back getting in at 9.40pm glad it was for only 4 days he came home yesterday.
Today I've had to do a small shop, I managed to do a larger shop prior to DH going into hospital as we knew he would not be able to drink for 2 weeks. My daughter fetched me 6pints of milk yesterday when she brought DGS to see his papa.
DGS aran sweater is finished and he has a matching hat, I just need a small zip for the back shoulder if I don't manage to get into town soon then I will adapt it to have buttons on instead.I will post a photo shortly. We are going over to our daughter's tomorrow for Sunday lunch and an easter egg hunt with DGS I got a lovely big YS chicken from sainburys when we was staying over there looking after DGS whilst she was away and I left it in her freezer ready for easter.
    Welcome to our newbies.
Why pay full price when you may get it YS ;)

Mistara - I buy peppercorns & spices (like vhalla) and look out for the sweet chilli and soy sauces - they are often much larger sizes and cheaper than the SM
Do let us know how you get on

Did the boat go in the water as planned, Silva?

Had a very thrifty YS shop at Morries after we took DS1 and the Grandkiddies back to his place tonight. Loads of 9p bargains which I shall post about tomorrow. I knew it would be good tonight with them closing tomorrow for the day.

Exhausted after hsving the littlies and their dad here for the afternoon. My DGD aged 1 was 'posting' things in the kitchen bin everytime our back was turned. We lost the remote control for the lounge lights and was sure she'd posted that too until we found it down the side of her chair she'd been playing on.

DS2 is determined his future life will definitely be child-free. He lets them lead him round like a teddy bear. He doesn't do firmness.:p

Viv - glad to contribute to your vast recipe collection :-) Y^our cheese cake sounds yum - I might try it next wk.

I am trying not to shop between now and next Monday (week) I am away over the weekend (Thurs to Sun) and have loads of stuff here! In this spirit I went to Mr Ts today only because I needed washing tablets (for the clothes washing). for £7.50 I got 35 tabs (so that = 6 months washing - once a week for clothes and once a fortnight for bedding and towels) and 12 Hot cross buns. But I did not pay for it!!! No, I have not taken up illegal practices - I used Mr T points - built up by petrol purchases!

So my question is - since no money left my purse - does this count as an NSD?

Felt a bit wicked going out without paying! (Although it was quite legal!) Also its worth noting that I dont, as such 'pay' for my clothes washing all year - also I 'buy' my underwear each year from Mr T's points :-) - a good money saving thing methinks :-)
    :rotfl:
Aim for Sept 17: 20/30 days to be NSDs  NSDs July 23/31 (aim 22) :j
NSDs 2015:185/330 (allowing for hols etc)
LBM: started Jan 2012 - still learning!

I'd definitely count it as a NSD. While I keep a record of how many vouchers or coupons I spend, they are never counted in with the real money that leaves my purse. In my opinion, if no money leaves your purse its got to be a NSD.:D

I use survey vouchers to buy my undies. I also collect lots of B &Q vouchers from various survey sites for my home and garden spends.
Morrisons vouchers earnt through petrol and Match and More points always go on extra food.
Can you remember back to when you didn't know all these tricks? I've told so many friends and family but some just think its too much bother. Can you imagine that?

failed miserably at NSD. my garden was looking rather bare and at this time of year lots of plants SHOULD have been coming up. I think I lost a lot this winter and we lost lots last winter due to the cold weather. which didn't get replaced because I was too mean! this year I think they drowned. so we had a trip to Home Bargins and Poundelastic. lots of bulbs at good prices. we needed to get them in now so spent nearly £15 on bulbs and roots and corms..........hopefully, if they all come up - my beloved garden will look ok this summer!

Morning All - Thanks for asking Cheerful. Yes she went back in yesterday morning. Everyone who has a boat at the club has to muck in to make sure everything goes smoothly. Its quite an operation to watch. We are on a tidal creek so the boats with no keels go in first as soon as there is enough water then as the water rises the bigger boats go & at high tide the biggest ( Max is a 30ft boat as we are a small club) then as the tide starts to go out the rest of the smaller boats. Its quite a sight to see them swinging high in the air and then being swung across the quay and into the water. My girlie behaved very well - engine started on the button (phew) and she's now snug on her mooring. I was on 'path' duty all day as there is a coastal path that runs across the quay so any walkers needed to be stopped and escorted across the area when it was safe. I was b****dy freezing cos there was a sharp cold north east wind -DH lit the fire when we got home & I don't think I thawed out 'till Bout 7 last night!
Meritaten - I think you did well on your bulb purchases - I do what my DH calls my 'Tour of the Estate' just to see what's emerging and coming into bud - I get so much pleasure from seeing
things growing. I planted French and Runner beans a couple of weeks ago and every morning I check to see how many are poking through - like a six year old!
Lyn & Cheerful - good use of your vouchers and points. I use my Morry points for store cupboard extras but my Nectar points are generally saved until we need something from Argis. Before DH retired he used to do about 1000 miles a week so LOTS of points & vouchers - do miss them lol
Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle
