Experian id insurance scam

Options
Like many others I have issued a claim to Experian for the refund of these fees
Using the idealised letter prepared by martin

After 8 weeks experian write to reject my claim, but, go onto say they now have four test cases with FOS
Presumably using same idealised letter

The 8 week rule allows me to escalate my complaint to FOS

However,I wondered if anyone on this site had had a case heard yet by FOS

It would be useful to know outcome, since,a successful outcome would mean Experian would automatically refund without any further action needed

Failing a FOS decision it would be appreciated if someone would update this site once they do have a decision from FOS

regards
Dr David Noble

  • If you think you want to go to FOS, get on with it.

Waiting for them to sort out somebody else's complaint is unlikely to be seen as "exceptional circumstances for the purposes of applying the six month time limit.

I just thought I'd update you all.

My complaint to the Financial Ombudsman had 2 stages.

It was upheld at the 1st stage - Experian rejected the findings.

It then went to the Ombudsman for the final decision and was upheld again.

the Ombudsman advised Experian had to refund all the insurance premiums (additional £5 in the standard membership fee) plus 8% interest - all in all, over £100 back.

Experian have agreed to refund - however, in his letter he does state that they do not agree with his decision and are refunding as a gesture of goodwill.

It's taken a while, but I'm getting the refund of all the premiums I've ever paid to them plus the interest.

Well, I had a call from the Ombudsman today regarding my case.

Experian are apparently now "willing to make an offer of settlement" on my case - and this is before the Ombudsman have investigated it! How their tone has changed eh?! Oh, but the offer is a "goodwill gesture" - how so kind of them!!

Basically offered to refund all of the premiums I have paid plus the 8% per year.

I've accepted this and now have to sign the settlement form from the Ombudsman and return it.

Happy days and good luck to the rest of you pursuing this

Had a call from the Ombudsman yesterday, apparently Experian have offered to settle at £5.00 per month plus 8% annual interest so totalling just over £90 (for me not to take it any further with the ombudsman).

Not too shabby! Just waiting for the forms to accept.

    Thanks MSE!

  • I read in the item on this on the man MSE site that only those who took out accounts/policies with Experian between 2011 and 2014 are potentially eligible for refunds.

My question is how do I know when I took out my policy/account? I've checked on the Experian site tonight (the new site is awful, by the way - way worse than it was before IMHO), but can't find that information anywhere.

    Any ideas?

If you are unsure whether you had the product you can call Experian customer services on 0844 481 0053 to find out.

Experian would be very foolish to not to admit where you had the cover, as as a last resort you could SAR them for the data or prove them wrong if you suddenly found records. I think they know the game is up and won't try any silly games.

I emailed them and they sent me all the details, I got the email address from their Facebook page where I asked the same question that you did above.

In the spirit of money saving, cancel the Experian membership, even without insurance it's a waste of money, nobody needs to check their account every week, the £2 statutory report will give you everything you need to check your record without needing a made-up score.

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.
