Good Morning, Everyone,
A very quick 'hello' as I now have three lots of guests - my friend from Australia arrived back last night but she is staying at my son's so that's not too difficult. Many thanks for all the suggestions on what to call my fella; I'll ponder those when I have a minute. Just a quick comment on the Vono bed saga. I had one with a metal frame when I was a child and always smashed my shins on the darn thing!
I will post recipes later if I have a minute. Getting dressed up again - isn't it exhausting? - to go out to lunch so food should stretch out this week although will need milk.
Have a good day, Everyone; I'll do a catch-up later.

Just found that I should have been more careful when I sowed my lettuce seeds - I mustn't have cleaned the pot properly and today I noticed silvery trails on the compost - took it out of the china bowl it was standing in and there, underneath it, was a rather large slug. Threw it into the garden for the blackbirds to deal with. Luckily the (still very tiny) seedlings don't seem to have been affected.
And sadly my bargain herb pots from Aldi are now wilting - further close inspection shows tiny white flies (greenhouse whitefly?) which are sucking the sap out of the poor things. Much too fiddly to pick off and I don't fancy any chemical treatments so I've put them outside, at least that will slow the flies reproductive cycle down and may kill them off, if we get another cold snap. I know it may kill the plants too but I don't want the horrid things to spread to other indoor plants.
Requires vigilance, this gardening business!
Lynplatinum, I do that too! I have a (super organised) friend and when she comes we joke that she won't be bringing her white gloves and running them along the skirting boards. Honest, my house is quite clean too! (Apart from DS's bedrooms, of course... those are a health hazard but they are their health hazards!)0 -
Mum gets those white flies. They are a menace to plants abd drive her nuts, too.
Grandkiddies just about to arrive as I'm babysitting this afternoon so must baby proof the room. Better hide my circulars as they'd love those and put my sausage dog pin cushion up high.
I was hoping to make my drawer dividers today but now I'll have the near impossible task of keeping the littlies quiet while DH sleeps as hes on nights.MAY GROCERY CHALLENGE £0/ £250

Finally started the HM pillow protectors, material has been measured and cut ready for sewing later on the week. Was wondering if it is best to have a pair of scissors just for this purpose (I just used my kitchen scissors). If so, any tips on where to get a good pair?
Had roast chicken last night for tea which was yummy - OH is going to portion up the leftovers for meals this week and also make soup. Love HM chicken soup
I really need my hair cut (last time was about a year ago) so I'm going to phone the local college and get an appointment there - it was £8 last time.Mortgage 26.4.25 - £108,500 3.6.25 - £107,282.15

Good afternoon everyone
I am unhappy that I put my washing on the line this morning and now is raining....I did not notice so the washing is now extra wet :0(
I have been doing some cleaning /tidying and tossing out.
Bin day early tomorrow. The bins have to go out tonight as they are emptied about 6am.
Danced with Dyson upstairs. Cleaned bathroom. Washed some walls in the spare little room. Put some dry washing away. General tidy.
I sugested Husband wash some windows BUT he said "No! that is what you are for..." Not good. He is only watching day time TV:0/
Pancake day tomorrow. To make or not? Once we have had dinner no one realy wants a pudding.
Gas and electric make do
= Last week total spent - £8.97 electric or 70 KWh
& gas for CH and HW £14.56 = 404KWh
Total spend for 9th - 15th February = £23.53.
These costs include the standing charge of 20.55p for each fuel.
Standing charge total for 7 days is £2.87.
Here is a shocking fact - this is 85% gas use for CH and HW.
Only 15% is for all the electric the family use.
Roll on warmer weather ;0)
How is every one coping? It can be difficult to let the fuel bill go unwatched and then wonder why the DD goes up/ get sent a large bill.
Sewing - I have plans to make a holder for old bags out of recycled fabric. We have plastic bags from some shops. I take my own bags for the supermarket shop.
Say something nice and keep smiling:0)The secret to success is making very small, yet constant changes.:)0 -
Thanks for the lovely welcome everyone.
RoseWood your bag is lovely, it has inspired me to dig out an old jumper that I have and I'm going to recover my cushion on my bed. Would post pic but i'm not very tech savvy.
Silvasava I have lovely day dreams about your boat and the MMM's with their YS champers on board with their MMM fishing rods catching lunch. Bring on the summer. It sounds wonderful.
For all the left over biscuits in the tin at the end of the month, which always seems to be the plain 1's, I take about a packets worth of different varieties and put in a food bag and crush with a rolling pin. Then in a large mixing bowel add a handful of chopped cherries and marshmallows. To this mixture add a tin of condensed milk and stir well. Place in a loose bottom tin and place in the fridge for a couple of hours. Turn out and slice into individual pieces and enjoy. I can't remember who I got the recipe from, but they called it nougat roll. Hope you like it.
Good advice wish I could dance with dyson but I successfully managed to blow mine up, along with my mobile phone yesterday. Just waiting for the 3rd thing to break. Looks like Im going to have to eek things out, and look out for 2nd hand goodies. Hey Ho.... that's life in 1 hand and out with the other...0 -
Looks like its a week of things breaking as my hairdryer blew on me this morning in spectacular fashion. It was like a firework, sparks and flame flew out. And like a ninny, when it first started making a weird noise I turned it round and looked down the barrel, nearly losing my eyebrows in the process.
Like an idiot I threw it away from me onto my ironing pile on the ottoman at the end of the bed. DH ran up the stairs while I was frantically trying to get the plug out from behind my bedside cabinet.
Ah well, I've Amazon vouchers saved from survey paid outs exactly for this purpose so I shall enjoy choosing myself another free.
Not a thing done MMM today. Grandkiddies gone back to their daddy now so peace reigns again in the house. I pondered a bit of knitting as DH is now on his nightshift but I don't think I could concentrate. Its taken an age to tidy up after the littlies have gone and I'm worn out.
I might Pinterest instead.
What I will do is catch up on linking the recipes to the front page. I love the sound of the Nougat Roll!
I might have to buy in some condensed milk as its so useful in treats. DS asked that next time limes were on offer he'd like Key Lime Pie made. (like limes are the most expensive part of that!)
Aldis are doing 3x limes @ 59p but the ones this morning were tiny and not very fresh looking. Might see if they get a better shipment in a few days.MAY GROCERY CHALLENGE £0/ £250

DAY 16
Money Spent Today - £3.74 Vouchers Spent - £0
Money Spent in Total - £45.41 Vouchers Spent in Total - £0
Money left in purse - £2.59 - Float left- £2.08/£15
Jan non-foods left- £1.85/£15
After a very rainy morning at the market with half the stalls being no shows, we spent NOTHING there at all. Bit disappointed really as I love that market and it normally is very good. Oh well.
We nipped to Aldi on the way home and spent £3.74 on 2lts milk@ 89p, 2x tins rice pud (succumbed again)@ 15p each, 1kg pk bananas @ 68p, 1.5kg Steak cut chips @ 79p, Brussel Sprouts @ 59p and 1 Kg Carrots @ 49p.
I have one egg left so must pop those on the list for tomorrow or Wednesday. Have a fancy for Boiled egg for breakfast tomorrow so that will be them gone then. I definitely need to plan things well as I'm used to replacing everything before I get anywhere near running out. I quite like it this way though as the food is fresher.
We didn't end up having the Carbonara I planned as DH didn't feel like it. Instead I made Egg, mushrooms and chips. We really enjoyed it for a change. I made the others Scampi and chips later as I had some in freezer stocks that needed using and the Grandkiddies love it.
Tomorrow will be the Carbonara as I'd bought the cream in readiness. I have two older heels of an uncut loaf so I think I'll make garlic bread type crouton slices to go with it and a rocket salad.
Hoping to sow some tomato seeds tomorrow. Not checked my chilli ones in the last couple of days but know they can take an age to germinate.
Might grab a book and head to bed in a minute. At least when DH is on nights I have the luxury of a bed all to myself.MAY GROCERY CHALLENGE £0/ £250

Just making my way through this lovely thread. It compliments another thread I post and read on.
I've been frugal for years with bring two boys up on my own.
Through circumstances and finacial situations we are all living together again for the time being. It works out fine as we get along great.
I still dont like to waste money though and the fab tips on here really help. I was brought up in the 50s with grannie in the house and they were the stars of make do and mend weren't they?
We used to scoff at Grannie picking up coins in the street and she would quietly say 'thank you'.
She said they were 'pennies from heaven'.:A
I'm looking forward to reading the rest of the thread”Pour yourself a drink, (tea for me now)
Put on some lipstick
and pull yourself together”

Good Morning everyone!
Rather late today but have been trying to get myself together after all the social whirl of the last two days. I really needn't have got into a flap as I got wined and dined yesterday lunch (three men - not bad, even if two are gay) and the house is full of alcohol and chocolates, so if I run out of food or coffee before the end of the month I'll be ok!
I can concentrate on my friend and her daughter now and the grandchildren are off school for half-term so I shall be making some of that treacle toffee. I must just tell you a funny story; my inamorato/significant other and I met about 4 years ago (we had a very sad break up and hence my Caribbean adventure) and he brought me a big bag of presents before our first Valentine's Day because he would be offshore on 14th February. I was told they were not to be open before Valentine's Day; well, I'm sure if you've been reading this thread you know I'm a bit of a rebel and always do the opposite of what I'm told. So as soon as I had waved him off, I was into that bag. Apart from the wonderful lingerie there was an enormous heart-shaped box of chocolates - totally irresistible, so with a little help from like-minded friends I made steady inroads into them. The next day I had a phone call to say, 'Darling, I'm on my way back to you, I'm not offshore until next week, we'll be together on Valentine's day and we can open our presents together'. Consequently I had to hot foot it down to Thorntons with the box and buy the right shaped chocolates to fill the spaces of the ones I'd eaten1 I won't do that again in a hurry! Although I did tell him about it a couple of months ago and he thought it was funny.
Recipes later, I promise. When I eventually do hit the shops in March I will definitely be trying that nougat roll, thank you!
Have a good day, All, speak later.
