Hi chums is it me or do toasters have a mind of their own? I have yet to own a toaster that works properly.I was at my DDs yesterday and the DGS wanted a bit of toast and butter for a snack after school. No problem says I, and the minute I started to use the toaster to 'pop--up' kept blooming popping up Grrr...
so last night I found a tea cake in the freezer and thought Mmmm a nice toasted teacake for supper with some butter and a scrape of honey, that'll go down well with some hot chocolate (I know how to push the boat out:):)wild living
:):))
Blow me down if my toaster also wouldn't stop popping up so no toasted teacake .Now is it just me that toasters don't want to work with, or am I jinxed in some way with two unfit toasters .Anyone else have a toaster problem I am on the point of hurling my toaster in the bin in frustration.Even on holiday I rare manage to get the toaster working grrr
oh how I agree JackieO I don't think I have ever had a toaster that worked exactly how they are supposed to. I have got through as many as 5 in one year. It makes no difference how much you spend they are all as bad. They do as they like.
I am probably as satisfied as I have ever been with my present one. It cost me about £5 and has been under toasting for about 6 years. If I turn it up just the tiniest bit it burns, by burns I mean burned to a cinder. It will not do tea cakes and I agree they are a treat, my late father loved them and would eat them in a tea shop while mum and I had a cream tea. He enjoyed them as much.
Guess what? I have just put the toaster on with nice thick slices of seeded bread.0 -
Hi all :j
Just popping in to say thank you to everyone who has posted tips on the 'presser foot saga'. Had no time yesterday to check them all out but will have a go this afternoon, hopefully with the 'help' of DH.
loving all the recipes etc on here, am making Chinese food tonight, with a few bits & bobs I have found in the fridge. Need to get ahead with it as always a last-minute rush...
Have noticed DH has ripped best (and favourite) cashmere jumper under the arm, actually it is a bit small TBH. Anyhow, I will mend it as soon as I can get the darn thing off him...
Hope to make a list of all the wool I have stashed around the place, then it will prevent me buying more - and the wrong colour - on the Bay of E in the mistaken belief that I will then have enough for a pattern I want to make. I bought some the other day, discarded by someone who had started a pattern & then got fed up. Yay I thought, that will be just the thing added to the stuff I have to make that sweater. Nope, all the colours are different, damn you Rowan. I feel a Fair Isle coming on.....:rotfl:New start JAN15 - NOT BUYING IT 2015 . Oh GQ that list about things that Life has taught me - just brilliant. I have a friend who wears white clothes in the summer, she did this even when her son was tiny and remained pristine at all times. I have never considered wearing a white skirt or trousers... nope no point.
Sometimes I kinda like looking a bit scruffy, it feels comfy, carefree and a teeny bit rebellious if that makes any sense? Other times I just feel a dishevelled mess and increasingly I'm not that bothered.
I was the kid who always had scraped knees, torn tights (wore them for primary school on the winter), missing button, hair that wouldn't behave and so on.
Re toasters. Mine seem to last a decent while generally (hope I haven't jinxed ours now.) An electrician gave me a tip. Regularly hold your toaster upside down and give it a few gentle shakes to unclog it. Loads of crumbs will come out even if you have a crumb tray. Be warned it makes a mess!0 -

It doesn't half and I do mine frequently. We obviously eat more than our fair share of toast.
The mention of seedy bread has me drooling. That must be my next job today to pop one in the breadmaker.
Can finally get on with my knitting now. DH is back (got worried as gone over 2 hours) and following a thorough check after bringing up a little blood, they have said this was caused through a bad chest infection and the constant straining on his stomach. What a relief its just that.
He now has a sick note for a week off work so hopefully we can get him all better over the next few days.:)
Think we'll get the heating on a little more for him and cosy up with knitting and telly for a week. A bit of baking added in there should make a nice little break.MAY GROCERY CHALLENGE £0/ £250

Pleased that your husband is sorted, Cheerfulnes. It's a good idea to keep warm. February is such a miserable month, but the snowdrops are peeping through the snow here, so the hope of Spring is on its way.0

Thanks Viv, I'm a dreadful worrier and even worse with my boys and they're both in their 20's now!
I am still on that row. Oh my goodness, I am battling my way through trying to understand how on earth you do it but I'm getting there very slowly. Never have I used a computer so much to decipher a chart and it looks so simple.
It's bloomin' circulars that are doing it. I'm all confidence when it comes to straight needles but I'm scared of misunderstanding with these things.
I'll be mighty proud of myself when I've cracked them, though.MAY GROCERY CHALLENGE £0/ £250

I think you are right the toaster is going to the dump as I hate things that don't work properly and its just taking up space.
I may have a go with my little G/forman grill as someone told me you can make cheese toasties on it so I don't why I can't use it for toasted teacakes I will report back on my experiment:):)

I am so annoyed with myself! I was in a rush yesterday and bought the wrong ink cartridges for my Kodak printer - and stupidly didn't check before opening the box! and wondered why the printer was refusing to take it! then realised it was the wrong one. I removed it and put the orange bit back on and the big colour cartridge is still sealed.
I don't know anyone whose Kodak printer takes the cartridges with the big number 10 on them and am loathe to bin them.
Anyone? first person to PM and I will be happy to gift them on.0 -
Good evening, Everyone, I've been doing the minimising part of this thread and have been exercising for an hour this afternoon; I feel fine at the moment but am wondering if I'll be creaking tomorrow! I also donated my toaster to my tribe; daughter-in-law was pleased, it takes time to make toast for eight! What was the point of keeping something I never used?
Here's a really cheap, tasty and quick pasta recipe.
Pasta with Bacon and Peas
200grams dried fusilli (or any pasta shapes), salt and pepper to taste, 3 tbsp. olive oil, a finely chopped onion, a finely chopped garlic clove, 100grams bacon bits, chopped neatly (just for the look of the thing, it'll taste just the same if you don't do it), 300ml double cream, 100grams frozen peas, 1-2 tbsp chopped flat leaf parsley, 1-2 tbsp. freshly grated parmesan.
Cook the pasta in boiling salted water with 1 tbsp. oil for 7-10 minutes until al dente. Drain and rinse under cold water to remove excess starch. Return to the pan and set aside. Heat the remaining olive oil in a deep pan. Add the onion and garlic and fry, stirring, for 2-3 minutes, then add the bacon and fry until crisp. Add the cream and let it bubble until reduced by half. Add the peas, bring back to the simmer and cook for 2 minutes. Season to taste. add the pasta to the sauce and heat through, stirring, for 1-2 minutes. Scatter with the parsley and parmesan and serve in warm pasta bowls.
Any bets yet on who is going to win the Great British Sewing Bee?
Have a good night, Folks.

That's such a pity, meritaten. Ink isn't pence either, so very kind of you to offer it to others. Hope you'll be able to help someone out.
