And it's a danger too when you're too bloody knackered to make the effort. Sometimes, like today, it's too much effort. You just want to get in the door, get to your chair, and collapse into it. The RV reminded me I hadn't washed my hands and I felt like saying oh who cares it will be fine. LOL - but I got up and did it. Shop counters /door handles/money are all filthy.
A girl I know had to empty cash from gaming machines in a betting shop and caught some bug from the coims which was so virulent that it had her in the hospital on a drip within hours; this was a healthy young adult knocked for six and totally unable to stop vomiting or keep any liquids down. Ghastly experience.
I have been scooting about hither and yon taking advantage of the lovely weather. I am doing some more digging on the allotment and plan to sow broad beans tomorrow, if the weather holds. Water butts are both overtopping - they were three-quarters full on Sunday.
Have run some errands and priced up some more cat-litter at Liddly - fullers earth type. D'you reckon suitable type for emergency kitty-littering human-loo? Was only £1.79 for a 10 kg bag.
I have also purchased a single can of a product of theirs which I haven't tried; Newgate brand meatballs in tomato sauce at 40p a can. Have scrutinised the ingredients and the contents looks pretty benign, so will try this tonight and if it's palatable, will add some cans of that into the preps.
Oh, and a reminder to those of us who are storing h.g. spuds; check yours out. Mine have started to shoot, which must have happened in the last week. I am about to turn them out onto the floor and de-shoot them before putting them back into the bike shed. I have wised-up from previous years and have the tattie sack on a newspaper delivery trolley, which makes moving 25kg a cinch. No point in getting older if you don't get more devious, say I.
Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Thanks JK0, I cannot see any diagram. My position re charging is the reverse as we get cheaper electric while the sun shines but the original question was about holding the charge as it is not worth charging items that lose their charge quickly
I'm always a little reluctant to start posting diagrams, lest someone copies what I've done and burns his house down.
Regarding Nicads losing their charge, I know what you mean. However, I think it worthwhile discharging them once a week and recharging so that my items are always ready to use. Mine are discharged at the 15 hour rate. (Capacity in Amp hours divided by 15.) This is a very gentle discharge, and does not damage them.
I believe there is an item available for solar installations that turns on an immersion when the sun shines. Maybe you could connect one of those to your battery chargers?0 -
I find it desperately sad that once again the World has stood by and done nothing to help in Africa
/QUOTE]
Do you mean countries like china, who exploit africa, russia who also exploits africa, the very rich arab states?
I think that we, in the uk, are an extremely generous nation and are the first to put our (collective) hands in our pockets
I think that the UK gives a higher proportion via the oversea aid budget than most rich countries, and then there are charities which are in addition to what the government donates. While some want the aid budget cut, it is actually very cost effective. If we can help overseas citizens have a decent future at home they will not feel the necessity to migrate here to improve their lot in life. It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.0 -
I can hardly believe it.
Over 651 hours, and the Aldi lantern is still lit.
What on earth is this thing running on :huh:0 -

Admits to having burst out laughing at that last sentence and thinking "If only....". Wonders how that camp/camps? in France that they are all queueing up in ready to try and stow away to get here is doing these days...:cool:0 -

Are they running on battery? If so, please could you point me in the direction of the equivalent AAAs...
I recently purchased some remote controlled LED candles with the promise that they'd last the winter on a timer ... they've only lasted week0 -
The batteries are Kodak Heavy Duty, from £land.0
